AD 3580. The Intersolar Commonwealth has spread through the galaxy to over a thousand star systems. It is a culture of rich diversity with a place for everyone. Even death itself has been overcome. But at the centre of the Commonwealth is a massive black hole. This Void is not a natural artefact. Inside there is a strange universe where the laws of physics are very different to those we know. It is slowly consuming the other stars of the galactic core - one day it will devour the entire galaxy.

What made the experience of listening to The Dreaming Void the most enjoyable?

A really good story, very well narrated, interesting characters, excellent plots, came together well, plots believably intertwined.

What other book might you compare The Dreaming Void to and why?

Pandora's Star (Trilogy) same writer and should be listened to in advance of the Dreaming Void. Both the Pandora's Star & Dreaming Void triologies are brilliantly written and delivered.

What about Toby Longworth’s performance did you like?

Wasn't sure at the start as I prefer John Lee, but actually really enjoyed the book/listen overall and would listen to a narration by him again.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Would make me buy more Peter Hamilton.

    Any additional comments?

The Dreaming Void starts off slowly for the first hour or two and I nearly turned it off and deleted it. That would have been a really big mistake. It sets the scene, albeit slowly, for the rest of the book, which is a really good and enjoyable listen. By the end of the two trilogies you really miss the characters, and the stories, and want the whole thing to keep going.

    All good.

John puts personalities into each character that you would expect from a good movie. He makes the characters real.

If you could sum up Judas Unchained in three words, what would they be?

    Enthralling, gripping, brilliant

What was one of the most memorable moments of Judas Unchained?

    all of it

Which character – as performed by John Lee – was your favorite?

All the characters are portrayed brilliantly

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

    Bought more

    Any additional comments?

This was my first science fiction read, Pandora's Star being Part 1 of the story. Well written story line, paced nicely, all the elements, plots and sub-plots along with the characters brought together perfectly. I would highly recommend this book, and have just bought another, The Void Triology. Really great from start to finish.

The reading by John Lee is utterly brilliant, as usual. I lost count of the different characters, and John Lee gave each one a different distinguishable character and accent. Without being told which character was speaking, you knew.

After many books read by him, I am still in awe of his talent.

A huge novel that follows five families through the world-shaking dramas of the First World War, the Russian Revolution, and the struggle for votes for women. It is 1911. The Coronation Day of King George V. The Williams, a Welsh coal-mining family, is linked by romance and enmity to the Fitzherberts, aristocratic coal-mine owners. Lady Maud Fitzherbert falls in love with Walter von Ulrich, a spy at the German Embassy in London.

If you could sum up Fall of Giants in three words, what would they be?

    Gripping, entertaining, compelling

What other book might you compare Fall of Giants to and why?

Pillars of the Earth & World Without End. Even though the stories and periods they take place are completely different, the way Ken Follet links and intertwines the characters is perfect, and togerher with the individual characters stories, the whole experience is thoroughly encaptulating.

What does John Lee bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

John Lee's narration is simply brilliant. The many voices and accents, and the depth he brings to each character allows you to visualise the book in your mind. It makes for a complete experience. I envy his talent.

    Any additional comments?

Slightly dissapointed with the end, like it was rushed to finish it, I felt that some of the individual stories could have been closed off a little more. However, I would absolutely recommend the book.

The setting is Hong Kong, 1963. The action spans scarcely more than a week, but these are the days of high adventure, from kidnapping and murder to financial double-dealing and natural catastrophes: fire, flood, and landslide. Yet they are days filled as well with all the mystery and romance of Hong Kong, the heart of Asia, rich in every trade: money, flesh, opium, power.

This was my first book by James Clavell. Awesome. From the start to finish the book was gripping. John Lee's narration is first class, his voices make the characters real and visual. At 56 hours it was still too short!
