But another challenge faces them as Bannus, a local tribesman, is brewing up trouble and preaching violent opposition to Rome. Though it is the fastest growing religion in the world, Islam remains shrouded by ignorance and fear. What is the essence of this ancient faith? Is it a religion of peace or war? How does Allah differ from the God of Jews and Christians? Can an Islamic state be founded on democratic values such as pluralism and human rights? A writer and scholar of comparative religions, Reza Aslan has earned international acclaim for the passion and clarity he has brought to these questions.

At the time of the French Revolution, one of Britain's most skillful naval officers, Charles Saunders Hayden, is a young lieutenant, the son of an English father and a French mother. His abilities and his loyalty to the king of England are beyond dispute, yet his career seems doomed by his "mixed" heritage and lack of political connections. Consequently, Hayden is assigned to an aging frigate, the Themis, under the command of Captain Josiah Hart, a man known as "Faint Hart" throughout the service.

Soon to join the ranks of Hornblower and Jack Aubery...this is very well done. If you like historical fiction and the Napoleonic wars...this is a must read. Interesting details and the court martial scenes are an often overlooked part of Naval life in the 1800's. Politics much like today...but in a byegone era. Check it out!
