An enchanting New York Times and international best seller and award-winner about life, art, literature, philosophy, culture, class, privilege, and power, seen through the eyes of a 54-year-old French concierge and a precocious but troubled 12-year-old girl.

    Overall

Although it took a bit of time, perhaps one hour of listening, to "get into" the personalities of the story, I found this to be a completely beautiful and thought-provoking novel. Barbara Rosenblat is a genius storyteller. She is funny, sublime, and absolutely perfect in her role. Honestly, this is one of the best books I have ever had the pleasure of reading (listening) and I highly recommend it. It is a literature that makes you think about it for days as well as cry when you think about the characters. If I could give this 6 stars, I would!!!

The town of Henbane sits deep in the Ozark Mountains. Folks there still whisper about Lucy Dane's mother, a bewitching stranger who appeared long enough to marry Carl Dane and then vanished when Lucy was just a child. Now on the brink of adulthood, Lucy experiences another loss when her friend Cheri disappears and is then found murdered, her body placed on display for all to see.

John S says: "Not too bad but you have to pay attention."

Would you listen to The Weight of Blood again? Why?

The narration could not have been better. Perfect for the story.

Which character – as performed by the narrators – was your favorite?

Hard to say, they were all excellent! Lucy is my favorite, however.

Laugh-out-loud funny and deeply touching, Beth Hoffman's sparkling debut is, as Kristin Hannah says, "packed full of Southern charm, strong women, wacky humor, and good old-fashioned heart." It is a novel that explores the indomitable strengths of female friendship and gives us the story of a young girl who loses one mother and finds many others.

Jenna Lamia is hands-down the very best narrator. I will listen to anything she narrates and "Saving CeeCee Hunneycutt is certainly worth the read. Hated to hear it end......maybe a sequel?

Marion and Shiva Stone are twin brothers born of a secret union between a beautiful Indian nun and a brash British surgeon at a mission hospital in Addis Ababa. Orphaned by their mother's death in childbirth and their father's disappearance, bound together by a preternatural connection and a shared fascination with medicine, the twins come of age as Ethiopia hovers on the brink of revolution. Yet it will be love, not politics - their passion for the same woman - that will tear them apart.

Other than "The Help", this is my favorite read. I couldn't put my ipod down. Listened for hours and sad when it ended. Definitely one of the best. The narration is perfect.

Why we think it’s a great listen: The most celebrated performance in all of Audible’s history, The Help has nearly 2,000 5-star reviews from your fellow listeners. We hear the print book’s not bad, either. In pitch-perfect voices, Kathryn Stockett creates three extraordinary women whose determination to start a movement of their own forever changes a town, and the way women - mothers, daughters, caregivers, friends - view one another.

Jan says: "What a great surprise!"
    "Perfect book"
    Overall

From the first chapter, THE HELP is completely mesmerizing. I listened to this every second I had a chance to put my ipod in my ear. It is one of those books that you wish would go on forever. I was so sad when it ended, not that it was a sad ending, but that the book was over. Is there a sequel? I certainly hope so! I can't say enough about the narrators (who are perfect and believable), the story line, and the way that Ms. Stockett captures the essence of each and every one of the characters. If I could give THE HELP more than five stars, trust me, I would give it ten. You will not be disappointed.
