on a scale of 1 to 10...10 being perfect....give it a 6
no opinion...lukewarm at this time
if you read/listen to the book...pay special attention to the capture of simon kenton and the 9 times he ran the gauntlet......wow...those indians were really brutal with the torture.
a sports writer here in phoenix stated this was one of the top 10 sport books that he had ever read. based on his recommendation i read the book. the book is well written and gives a great history of the art of boxing and ring fighting. i don't think it is one of the top 10 sport books ever written but it is worth the time to read and get an in depth look at this sport.
my son gave this book to me several years ago because he knew of my love of traveling on the back roads. the book was read and then placed on the shelf where it has been for several years. when i discovered that it was available in audio form, i immediately purchased, downloaded on my ipod and enjoyed it again during my daily walks. between the first read and the recently listened to version...it is interesting to note that i have also traveled on many of the same roads...not exactly the same results but interesting travels. if you like an off the beaten path look at america...put this book on your must read list.
i walk several miles a day and this book of short stories was just perfect to listen to...especially the story read by king about the couple and their pets they bought for each other.....just a great collection of short stories from the master of story telling.....
good read but a bit disappointed because i wanted to hear more stories about the reds and not particular stories that all (or at least it seems that way) involved something about tom browning. he was a great player...good "RED"...but there was more to the reds than him.
Forsyth is the greatest...and this is one of the best he has ever written.....even though it's fiction....it could really happen........and probably does...we just haven't read about it yet...for real......
Didn't really realize what i was into when i started listening to the book...didn't take long to realize that it was an assortment of famous people just saying the same thing over and over and over.....He's the greatest...and i agree but it would have been nice to hear about some of the fights....
Originally read the book...this time it was nice to have it read to me.....great listening and Manchester does it right.
I recently bought and listen to "The Cobra"...it has been some time since I read some of the authors books...but having read this many years ago...decided to do it again...this time listen and not read.....it is just as good the 2nd time around....
started of terrific...then went in too many directions
it is a movie...and in my opinion...the movie was better
I was all set to buy the other 2 "Bourne" books....now I will rethink that
recently listen to the cobra...incredible story.....and then I found it necessary to re-read the avenger....do yourself a favor if you are a Forsyth fan.....read avenger...then the cobra....all I can say is I can't wait for another book.....
