Offred is a Handmaid in the Republic of Gilead, serving in the household of the enigmatic Commander and his bitter wife. She may go out once a day to markets whose signs are now pictures because women are not allowed to read. She must pray that the Commander makes her pregnant, for in a time of declining birthrates her value lies in her fertility, and failure means exile to the dangerously polluted Colonies. Offred can remember a time when she lived with her husband and daughter and had a job, before she lost even her own name....

What was most disappointing about Margaret Atwood’s story?

i dont think it is difficult to picture a doom future. The difficult part is to draw the reason it has become such a future, the steps and reasoning why and if this can be.
This book does, in my opinion, the easy step only - picturing a tragedy future of the US. After the first 30 minutes, you get the picture and then there is more and more of the life in this regime.
must say i did not finish the book... (first time this happens to be in Audible, hope its the last)

The New York Times best-selling author of The Six Wives of Henry VIII and The War of the Roses, historian Alison Weir crafts fascinating portraits of England’s infamous House of Tudor line. Here Weir focuses on Elizabeth I, also known as the Virgin Queen, who ascended to the throne at age 25 and never married, yet ruled for 44 years and steered England into its Golden Age.

If you could sum up The Life of Elizabeth I in three words, what would they be?

i do not usually read/listen to history books. i love historical romans, but not so much history books. I picked the book because of Davina Poter, the great narrator, and probably would have left the book after the first 1 hour if not for her.
But - once into the book, i loved it. go carried away with it, learned to know the characters and really enjoyed the book.

What other book might you compare The Life of Elizabeth I to and why?

Just finished reading and listening to the accursed kings which talk about the kings (mainly of France) during the 14'th century - a bt similar.

Would you try another book from Stephen King and/or Stephen King?

i've heard Stephen King novel 11-22-63 and enjoyed it a lot, which is why i took a second book by him. Unfortunately, n the first ~5 hours (which is what i listened to), the plot did not mature.. i kept going as i hoped something will happen but eventually decided that a quarter of the book is enough.
    sorry

Has Bag of Bones turned you off from other books in this genre?

    No

    Yes.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

Being a Girl with Glasses isn't just a style choice; it's a way of life. If you've ever had your specs steam up when walking into a bar, squinted into the sun on the soccer field, or laid eyes on a new haircut only after your locks are strewn across the floor, you know what it's like to be a GWG. Marissa Walsh has worn glasses since third grade. Now - 10 pairs of glasses, one pair of prescription sunglasses, and endless pairs of contacts later - she has fully embraced her four-eyed fate.

How could the performance have been better?

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Girl with Glasses?
