I couldn't. Its a great book and I love an author that doesn't dumb things down for the kids who will be reading (or listening to) it.
He didn't really do voices as such - tones and inflections changed for each character but you can't change Tim Curry's voice.
The productions values let this down. There is a fuzziness to it that does a great injustice to both the book (which is a favourite) and to Tim Curry's narration. There is a is hissing in the background which gets on your nerves after a while - thus explaining my odd ratings. The kids loved it though they too complained about the background noise.
Yes - the kids enjoyed it and we listen to audio books on long trips.
Its different to the movie - as all books are - and I like it better.
I have only seen her movies but I would be inclined to look out for other audio books narrated by her in the future.
Characters have their own voices and she reads to children exceedingly well.
Delighful. The story is different to (and so much better than) the movie. David Tennant knows how to read and enjoys doing so.
All his characters are instantly identifiable by their voices. You never think for a minute it is a character other than that than which it is intended to be - his character voices never falter.
We have a holiday home a couple of hours from our house. We listen to a half a book in each direction. Our boys (8 and 6 years) never act up in the car when these are on. It makes driving such a delight.
We are working our way through the series and each book is proving to be a delight. Well written, narrated and produced. We love them as much as the kids do.
