Lots of fun stuff but this book just kept repeating itself with a silly formula (spoiler):
- Look of terror
- History lesson
- Amnesia clears just enough to reveal a pertinent clue
- On the run, narrowly escape
REPEAT ad nauseam
It's great to have the governor back but I don't think a young adult books is the right setting for his edgy character. I didn't realize this was a young adult book and that was a disappointment - suspect it would have been a great read at 15. As always, Hiaasen is funny and creates enjoyable characters to take a ride with. OK book that could have been great.
There's very little plot, mostly just characters reflecting on something around them in a way that attempts to be witty or knowledgable. Reacher is a clever guy but some care should be given to making the plot so too. As usual Dick Hill brings the story to life with his narration. This isn't the worst book in the series but it's down in the bottom 5 - if you're new to the Reacher series, choose one of the earlier books. Child makes interesting characters for his good guys but his bad guys are one dimensional. Even so, Reacher will bring me back to the next in the series.
Rosenberg puts together another page turner but intertwined in the espionage, bombs and intrigue are too many personal stories of characters finding Jesus. I don't know if he's trying to broaden his appeal or just doesn't realize how these ill fitting, forced and interruptive these subplots are to the story.
Very, very, good, hard to believe it's Faye's first book, can't wait to read her next book
This book needs an editor. Reading entire chapters that develop the back story of a character that gets killed and then has no impact on the plot is tiresome. Lots of interesting bits here, but equally there are side stories that an editor should help the author see are unnecessary. Coes has lots of potential if he can learn to focus on the plot.
The Poet is a well crafted thriller that is hard to put down. Buck Schirner is an excellent narrator.
To graphic for my tastes but this book was a brilliant surprise, a contender for the best book of the year.
Probably the funniest book I've ever read, certainly Clinton Tyre is the best character. This is Hiaasen at his best.
Thor uses this book as a forum to call a former first lady a bitch, ball buster, and then have the climax of the book including her being video taped giving someone a BJ. It's a bummer to pay for a book for entertainment and then get some guy's mean spirited political views, even if you suspect they're the same party as yours.
