Overall a great listen. This book is a little different from Terry Goodkind's other books of this series. Whereas the other books take place in a fantasy world, this book returns back to the "real" world and links it to the previous books, which is very intriguing and something i never expected. Great job, looking forward to the next book in the series.
This book is supposed to be right after the end of the sword of truth series, yet the story is written as if assuming the reader has never read the previous books. This is extremely frustrating especially if you've read the previous books as you'll often find yourself trying to mentally tell the character "you know this!, remember we've been here before, yet the story is written as if this is new information. Richard Rahl is supposed to be very perceptive, and yet acts like he's discovering the uses of subtractive magic all over again. Overall very disappointing book, and not recommended.
I'm a pretty big bourne series fan so naturally i got this book without a second thought, should have known though that Eric Van Lustbader is no Robert Ludlum. Its a half decent book but i'm kind of tire of ALL themes being the same, especially in the last 2 books. Eric Van Lustbader needs to come up with some new ideas!
The concept presented in this book isn't ground breaking but it is the way the story is told that sets this book apart from others. I would give this book 5 stars except i think they could have added a prequel to the book or atleast a decent back story before plunging the listeners into the world of Hyperion. Still overall its a good book and worth the credit.
Overall, i really enjoyed this book. I'm an avid listener of multi-part series from various authors and out of all of the (Eg: Wheel of time, Legend of the Seeker.....etc), this series is by far my favorite. Yes this book has some downfalls like every other multi-part series, authors sometimes drone on with details to fill the page, but for the the most part all the little details that are introduced in the first book play a big part in the next few books. The various races introduced in the books are one of its biggest assets . If you like Sci-Fi, Space, Extraterrestrials, Politics (the bearable kind) and potential of human ingenuity, you'll love this book.
The book is very disorganized with regards to how the plot develops and to make it worse provides little to no background information on the main plot characters. Its as if the author assumed that we would know the prequel and continued from there.
One of the best audiobooks. Although predictable, it has enough suspense to keep you listening. Voice acting is great too.
The story's not bad, but in every chapter the book dramatically changes direction and alters the main personality. Wouldnt recommended this book.
