An upstairs/downstairs blend of haughty aristocracy and thieving lowlife makes this a fun and fascinating performance. The manipulations and moods of the characters fill out a subtle plot well. A full radio play with background noises was a delightful extra.
I loved everything about this first book of the trilogy--the creativity of the Darwinist vs the Clankers at the start of WW I; the characters, and especially Alan Cumming's ability to switch superhumanly between accents for all ages and social levels of German/Austrian/British/American characters.I'm now done with book 2 and moving on to book 3
A fun short story for fantasy fans, and Gaiman is a great narrator! Worth your time.
A creative backstory behind Degas' dancers, what their lives might have been, struggling to survive in old Paris. The characters were fascinating, the narration brought them alive, and the emotional swings of the story kept me anxious to get back for more.
I loved the approach of multiple authors writing about a shared world. Loved 2 stories, liked one, the other two weren't holding me. All the readers were excellent
The personalities, motivations and passions behind school-learned names come alive in the best possible way in this book. I was enthralled by the authors' expansion of the tale into this narrative creation.
And Alan Cummins' performance was the best twist of all. His Scottish authenticity kept the characters ringing in my ears long past the end of the book.
Recommended for anyone who likes Game of Thrones, Shakespeare, or a story in which good people make bad choices.
I'm a deLint fan and this audio version is like living with his Newford people all around. Totally loved it!
This story originally came with complex, dynamic pictures accompanying the dialogue. The authors converted it to a non-graphic novel and that translates really well into this audio version. Great voices for all the various humans, aliens, and talking machines make this a fun adventure
I'd read the print version of this years ago, but found the audio a completely new and enthralling experience. Outstanding narrator and plot with great twists.
I had heard the authors interviewed and knew about the comic, before I tried this novel. I totally loved it so much more than the comic with the performance and the voices. The audio version is fabulous!
