I have a hard time reading/listening to true fiction books. I think this is because my main reason for reading is to learn and not necessarily just for enjoyment, although I do read many historical fiction books. Favorites history/biography books and science/tech info books.

Spanning the years 1940 to 1965, Defender of the Realm, the third volume of William Manchester’s The Last Lion, picks up shortly after Winston Churchill became prime minister - when his tiny island nation stood alone against the overwhelming might of Nazi Germany. The Churchill portrayed by Manchester and Reid is a man of indomitable courage, lightning-fast intellect, and an irresistible will to action.

Would you consider the audio edition of The Last Lion: Winston Spencer Churchill, Volume 3 to be better than the print version?

I have never read the print version so I would not know. Check it out for yourself.

What other book might you compare The Last Lion: Winston Spencer Churchill, Volume 3 to and why?

    This is a dumb question.

What does Clive Chafer and Paul Reid bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Don't know, but they did a very good job.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No, it is very long. But was well worth listening to. Learned a lot about World war two in general. This book shows to me the difference in the amount of humanity the leaders had of the allies compared to the axes powers. Winston could be a jerk but this book shows that he truly cared about people and his country not just power.

Durant's experience as a prisoner in Somalia grew increasingly bizarre, crystallizing a clash of cultures by turns frightening, melancholy, hilarious, and strangely familiar. Revealing never-before-told stories with the incisive thought and emotion of one who was there, In the Company of Heroes is one man's unforgettable, true story of going to hell and making it back alive.

If you want to understand who Christ is, you have to begin by understanding what Jesus meant when he said in Luke 24:27, "And beginning with Moses and all the prophets, he explained to them what was said in all the Scriptures concerning himself" (NIV). In Finding Jesus In the Exodus, biblical scholar Nicholas Perrin shows that the Bible's story of the Exodus from beginning to end is filled with prophetic foretellings of the person and work of Christ.

Have read a few books by former Navy SEALs and I love the way they describe their Jobs with the detail that they think is important. This book helped me to get a little taste of the mindset of a Seal and gave me the most accurate story on the bin Laden mission. Can't get a more accurate story from anyone else than a person who was only feet away from the piece of garbage when he was killed.

A clear-sighted revelation, a deep penetration into the world of Scientology by the Pulitzer Prize-winning author of the The Looming Tower, the now-classic study of al-Qaeda’s 9/11 attack. Based on more than 200 personal interviews with both current and former Scientologists - both famous and less well known - and years of archival research, Lawrence Wright uses his extraordinary investigative ability to uncover for us the inner workings of the Church of Scientology.

Love how much actual first hand knowlege Lawrence Wright got from former high ups in scientology to put into this book. Also like how he describes a lot of the wierd beliefs these people have but didnt make fun or criticize the beliefs, only criticized the human rights violations the church has committed. Someone can look at any religion and find all kinds of wacky things about it, but this one ruins your life if you try to escape it.

On November 10, 2008, Dr. Eben Alexander was driven into coma by a disease so lethal that only 1 in 10,000,000 survive. Seven days later, he awakened with memories of a fantastic odyssey deep into another realm that were more real than this earthly one - memories that included meeting a deceased birth sister he had never known existed. Dr. Alexander deployed all his knowledge as a scientist to find out whether his mind could have played a trick on him. In its shutdown state, there was no way it could have.

Known for his network of conservative websites that draws millions of readers everyday, Andrew Breitbart has one main goal: to make sure the "liberally biased" major news outlets in this country cover all aspects of a story fairly. Breitbart is convinced that too many national stories are slanted by the news media in an unfair way. In Righteous Indignation, Breitbart talks about the key issues that Americans face, how he has aligned himself with the Tea Party, and how one needs to deal with the liberal news world head on.

Would you listen to Righteous Indignation again? Why?

I'm not one to listen to books twice but I know I could do it without the urge to turn it off.

Which character – as performed by Jeremy Guskin – was your favorite?

loved the job the narrarator did. Sounds like it could be Andrew

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Now days weapons are camera phones! The government media complex would like to ban them.

    Any additional comments?

This book just gave me a bit of hope for our country. It showed me that with the internet and all of the ways to get information out into the public, it is becoming more and more difficult for the mainstream leftwing media to control what is talked about. It showed me that even I if I happen to catch something important on camera could out some liar in the media or government.

Without question the finest short biography of the world's greatest philosopher, Socrates provides us with an excellent introduction to Socratic thought. Although Socrates himself left no writings, Professor Taylor consolidates all that can be known about the life and death of Socrates through the Dialogues of Plato, Aristotle's treatises, and Xenophon's discourses. Socrates believed that virtue is knowledge; all wickedness, he said is due to ignorance. In his teaching, Socrates sought the universal definition of virtue through particulars. Aristotle credits him with developing the inductive method. With self-knowledge as the foundation for inquiry, Socrates would save men from leading "unexamined" lives. Taylor reveals Socrates as "the man who created the intellectual and moral tradition by which Europe has ever since lived" and "an original genius in whose character there was a unique blend of the passionate lover, the religious mystic, the eager rationalist, and the humorist."

Why we think it’s a great listen: Seabiscuit was a runaway success, and Hillenbrand’s done it again with another true-life account about beating unbelievable odds. On a May afternoon in 1943, an Army Air Forces bomber crashed into the Pacific Ocean and disappeared, leaving only a spray of debris and a slick of oil, gasoline, and blood. Then, on the ocean surface, a face appeared.....
