There was so much info that i'm going to have to go back and take notes (when i have 10 hours to go back) This is a great way to get "cliff notes" of 50 great books... a great way to find out a little about a lot and if you want more info, you can go out and buy the book. i found out that a lot of "success books" coming out these days are rehashes of thoughts published many many years ago! highly recommend... i just got 50 selfhelp and 50 psychology greats.... on to my next!
This book was disappointing. I'm not sure how you can have a question as the title of your book and NOT answer the question!!!
I give the author credit as there was obviously a lot of research put into this book. I feel that the author goes off on tangents often and does not weave it all together very well.
There is hints at a few possible answers however there is no definitive answers. I Come out of the other side with more questions than answers.
There was potential for a great book but I cannot recommend this book.
I bought this book YEARS ago, and never actually read it until now. When I started it I obviously wasn't in a place to hear it. After being married for some time, it hits home. This book along with What makes love last are two of the best relationship books on the market. If you are willing to put in the work, it will save your marriage.
Which book is better? I say buy both! If you can't and you can only buy one - look at your problems.
If you are getting stuck on the same arguements over and over, or there has been an affair, or you feel like you are going to try to do it on your own - I suggest What makes love last.
If you have decent communication, and you want a better relationship - this book is worth the buy.
Both are great books - and you wont be disappointing with either. There is a reason that both books are highly recommended by MFT (marriage family therapist) all over the world - worth the buy.
Me - it has helped my marriage
All of it.
Relationships are not always perfect - with work they can be better.
This book is amazing - if you ever asked the question. This is the answer. Well written, well read - worth the buy. This book bundled with Hold me tight is all you need.
If you are single i recommend 'attached' however this is also a great book to have. '
Know when you are 'flooding' during an argument, and understand the horsemen.
The whole book has a lot of useful info.
Has some great info on affairs - I would also recommend 'Just Friends'
I enjoyed the book. It's very concise and has great insight. I would probably recommend this more for the single people over those in a long term relationship and/or married folks. For the LTR and married I would recommend Hold me Tight which references this book and others or What makes love last.
Three types of people - you don't want to be the first two... work to be the third.
Keeping an eye on my attachment style.
One thing bothered me - I feel like they didn't touch on the fact that people can 'change' attachment styles due to life changes (both positive and negative)
Overall I was disappointed with this book. It started off ok, giving great examples and explaining the background however I felt the book never really moved on from that point.
I understand the author spend a great amount of time getting some great research to put into the book however again it never really moved on from that point.
There was a lot of build... and no climax, just left hanging.
What I'm saying is that there is a great job done with the background (where the author is coming from and why you should listen to her), some great examples and stories (what the problem is and real life examples of the problem).
The problem? There is no solution. Ok, to be fair I might have missed it while driving and getting map directions or a phone call... There is no concise solution to the problems presented.
At the end I felt like I have a better grasp for what the problem is - sex, intimacy, attraction fades over time... where is the solution? What I got from the book is that the solution is to focus more on creating the intimacy, romance, attraction and hopefully sex. um great.
Nope- I know what the problem is, I was looking for solutions.
Nope - The accent was pretty thick, detracts from enjoying the book - Esther should have handed this one off.
Nope, not unless you want to better understand the problem of long term mating in captivity WITHOUT a solution.
Please send me an email or a message with some solutions to the problems presented, or a refund - Thanks.
This book is for anyone who has ever heard 'we are just friends' or I love you but i'm not in love with you or been involved in an affair (the betrayed, the affair partner OR lover) or even if you are trying to 'affair proof' your marriage... this book hits all angles and is very well written.
I highly recommend it.
What makes love last or Hold me tight - because all three are a must have for all marriages.
Very well read, it is a pleasure to listen too.
Understanding affairs from many angles in an insightful way.
If your life has been touched by an affair, even if it is past and long gone... read this book.
If you read this book, the world will be a better place... How? Why?
There are too many boring people in this world.
This book helps you to realize there is a better way - it's mainly about texting however there is some over all great tips to live your life - Overall some great advice and worth the read.
Actual useful scenarios and stories that can be put into action right now.
There are times when R.C. Bray is a little over the top, although it really feels like he enjoyed the opportunity to read this book.
A few of the lines are delivered a little too 'smug' and the laughter... hahaha.. (you'll know what I mean)
Overall still pleasant to listen to and worth the read.
the whole book could be summed up in one line. Overall a great listen - it's not crazy expensive which is why I bought it, however was disappointing with how short it was.
ps if your looking for the one line summary, it's on the cover of the book.
You are a badass - live your life and love you.
The one line summary
worth the read
If your willing to put in the work this book is going to push you in the right direction.
Any time a book starts off by saying it's not your 'average self help book' you know your in for an average self help book with re-hashed info. This started that way and quickly changed, this isn't a book that you can read and get a few ideas from. You have to be willing to put in some work and after that you will find yourself in a better place. I will admit there are a few spots I glazed over, but overall I was quite impressed with the delivery and structure along with the exercises included.
Well worth the read, I actually bought the hard copy for my wife to read (she doesn't like audiobooks lol)
*I'm a real person who writes real reviews on the books I get, if you don't believe me, check out my other reviews :) Thanks for reading
Bottom line: this is a great book with REAL WORLD applications that can be used not just in negotiations but in ANY human interaction.
I wasn't sure about this book at first, but it had a lot of great reviews so I gave it a shot... I was first frustrated with the book because it would tease a lot of info or revisit points already covered and/or seemed 'obvious'.
Getting deeper in the book it started to make sense. A lot of the things this book covers seem pretty obvious but it works, I recently found this out:
I was having some major issues with a 'big bank' and they refused to reverse fees. After my wife spent over two days on the phone with them unsuccessful, I used some of the tactics in this book... took 15 minutes, and done -
I'm now looking at more opportunities to utilize this information. I've read at least 4 different books on negotiation and another 4 on persuasion along with my BA in psych etc; this is a great book with REAL WORLD applications that can be used not just in negotiations but in human interaction.
*You can read my many other reviews, I give my honest opinion of the books I get here - I would hope you do the same ;) Thanks for reading.
