Emma Bailey is fed up with the dating scene, and if she hears her mother nag one more time about getting married…well, she’s had it, and she wants everyone to know it. In a moment of clarity (or insanity?), she announces to the world that she will never marry. No husband and no kids; no worries about diapers, driving lessons, or divorce. Her friends are there for her, but they’re also involved in their own lives and loves, so off she goes into a world of casual dating. But what happens when the avowed spinster, the woman who has supposedly tucked her heart into a safe little space, suddenly realizes that her best friend Brian means more to her?

Would you try another book from Jamie Lynn Braziel and/or Johanna Parker?

Johanna Parker is a fantastic narrator.

Has Declaring Spinsterhood turned you off from other books in this genre?

    Kind of.

What about Johanna Parker’s performance did you like?

She's the best narrator of all of the books I've listened to on audible. After listening to the Sookie Stackhouse series, I thought this was a good next choice.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Declaring Spinsterhood?

    The end. Gag me.

It's been three months since Amy escaped New Hope. Since she's seen Baby, or Kay, or Rice. And she's been surviving on her own, like she did before she was "rescued" and taken to what she thought was a safe haven. Then, in the midst of foraging for supplies, her former fellow Guardian's voice rings out in her earpiece. And in a desperate tone, Kay utters the four words Amy had hoped she would never hear: Dr. Reynolds has Baby.

I actually liked this book more than the first, In the After. Loved the new characters, great plot development, interesting story. A lot of sequels lack follow through, and this definitely takes you where you want to go. Enjoyed this book immensely, can't wait for the next one.

Amy is watching TV when the world is attacked by Them. Most of the population is overtaken, but Amy manages to survive - and even rescue "Baby" a toddler she finds in an abandoned supermarket. Then, after years of hiding, they are miraculously rescued and taken to New Hope, a colony of survivors living in a former government research compound. While at first the colony seems like a dream, with plenty of food, safety, and shelter, New Hope slowly reveals that it is far from ideal. And Amy soon realizes that unless things change, she'll lose Baby - and much more.

As far as apocalypse fiction goes, I really enjoyed this! It goes in a different direction from the other zombie novels I've listened to, and of course Julia Whelan is an excellent narrator. I will definitely be getting the sequel. There are no boring sections of this novel. I definitely recommend it.

Cassie Forrest could almost believe life at Kingdom Come Farm is perfect, with Adrian and her friends at her side and spring on the way. The spring thaw also means millions of defrosting zombies, however, and if the past year has taught her anything, it's that life in this new world is highly imperfect. When Safe Zones throughout the country begin to disappear and the zombies at the fences grow in number, Cassie clings to the hope that if she has the people she loves most, it will be all right.

This book doesn't lack for action and carries on in the same vein as the first book. I really loved the character relationships, but all I can say is don't get attached to anyone. I have to admit that I think the first book was better, as there was more action as the characters moved from place to place. This book was a little slower.

It is Nick and Amy Dunne's fifth wedding anniversary. Presents are being wrapped and reservations are being made when Nick's clever and beautiful wife disappears from their rented McMansion on the Mississippi River. Husband-of-the-Year Nick isn't doing himself any favors with cringe-worthy daydreams. Under mounting pressure from the police and the media - as well as Amy's fiercely doting parents - the town golden boy parades an endless series of lies, deceits, and inappropriate behavior. Nick is oddly evasive, and he's definitely bitter - but is he really a killer?

This book is awesome. There are twists and turns, and just when you think you have it figured out, everything changes. What great writing. Gillian Flynn leads you exactly where she wants you to go and you will love every second of it. Outside of the mystery, there are some great discussions of views on relationships, men and women that I really enjoyed. Julia Whelan's performance is amazing. She's one of my favorite narrators. I can't rate this highly enough. I have no idea how the movie will be able to stand up to this performance.

The visionary creator of the Academy Award-winning Pan's Labyrinth and a Hammett Award-winning author bring their imaginations to this bold, epic novel about a horrifying battle between man and vampire that threatens all humanity. It is the first installment in a thrilling trilogy and an extraordinary international publishing event.

If I could give the narration zero stars, I would. Ron Perlman can barely pronounce a lot of this. He reads in monotone, no inflection in his voice whatsoever. I've considered returning this book two or three times, based purely on that. The music played between interludes is SO ANNOYING. If you can get past those things, I think the story is actually pretty good. But there are a LOT of characters and it's hard to keep track of them with this monotonous reading.

Cassie Forrest isn't surprised to learn that the day she’s decided to get her life together is also the day the world ends. After all, she’s been on a self-imposed losing streak since her survivalist parents died: she’s stopped painting, broken off her engagement to Adrian and dated a real jerk. Rectifying her mistakes has to wait, however, because Cassie and her friends have just enough time to escape Brooklyn for her parents’ cabin before Bornavirus LX turns them into zombies, too.

I am a person who watches Walking Dead. That being said, I loved this book. It's basically like a season of walking dead with people who actually make good decisions and with more character development. This book is more about the relationships than the gore, but I loved that aspect of "zombie apocalypse" and the dangers constantly lurking. There were many surprises in this book, and I was on the edge of my seat listening (shouting out loud as things happened). I loved it and can't wait for the next one to come out.

Olivia Kiskey needs a change. She’s been working at the same Nodaway Falls, New York, waffle house since she was a teenager; not a lot of upward mobility there. She’s been in love with Tobias, the cook, for the last four years; he's never made a move. Intent on shaking things up, Olivia puts her house on the market, buys a one-way ticket to Europe, and announces her plans to her friends - but then she meets Davina Granville, a strange and mystical Southern woman....

What did you like best about Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy? What did you like least?

The second half was much better than the first. All of the talk about worrying over twitter followers made me think...how old is this woman and what is wrong with her?

Has Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy turned you off from other books in this genre?

No, I've read the other Bridget Jones books and loved them. This was just kind of dumb.

Could you see Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

I suppose...but a lot would need to be cut out.

    Any additional comments?

I really enjoyed the first two Bridget Jones books and was so excited when this one came out. The bad reviews held me off for awhile, but when i finally decided to give it a listen, i understood what people were talking about. She just seems like a stupid person. She was always kind of inept, but this book made her seem like someone who wasn't good at anything, didn't take anything seriously, didn't have to take anything seriously...just bad at everything. like...an idiot. dont get me wrong...there were some definite laugh out loud parts of the book, and i really really enjoyed the end. But the first half just made me think "who is this moron and why am i listening to her whine about losing twitter followers? isn't she 50?"

Thea Luckmore believes in love, the magic spark of true, old-fashioned, romantic love. She's determined only to fall head over heels, or rather, heart over head. Alice Heggarty, her best friend, is always falling in lust, with dashing rogues who invariably break her heart. As yet another disastrous relationship ends, Alice makes a decision. It's time to marry and she knows just the man.

Thea had a great depth of character.

    Any additional comments?

What a great book. I found it to be a realistic portrayal of how modern relationships really play out. Some very romantic parts, some not so nice practicalities, laughs and tears. The beginning is a little slow, and Alice is a little annoying, but overall i think this is a really nice listen and i was sad that it was over.
