Convoluted, complicated, boring. I couldn't bring myself to care what happened to the "terrorist", he was such a whiny, ungrateful, creature, who couldn't make up his mind about anything other than imposing his will on everyone else, including his lawyer. A horrible, weak portrayal of a woman falling in love with her client, not worthy of her devotion. Skip it.
James Lee Burke never disappoints. His lyrical, almost poetic style is riveting. The local descriptions are spot on, although I think the narrator needs a little update on the fact Montana residents have virtually no accent. Great book.
I can't wait for the next book.
A long tedious listen. The first part is great, I really got involved with the characters, but the rest of the book is just not engaging. I managed to finish listening to it, but the characters are not well drawn and I couldn't keep track of who was who. Except for a few, I just didn't care about them. It ended abruptly and I suppose it will have a sequel, but I will not be among the buyers. Comparison to Stephen King? You've got to be kidding!
Wow! This was one of those can't stop listening books. The fast story line, the character development were signature King at his best. I didn't want it to end. I believe it was his best book . King is a master story teller and he never lets you down and and he never lets you go.
When I ordered this book, I did not realize it was a children's book. No matter,it is a fascinating story, in the manner of Harry Potter. There were a few escapades that I did not think added to the story, but kids will love them. Very well written and read by the author. A wonderful fantasy and in it's own way, a love story.
I've been a Stephen King fan from his Richard Bachman days and I belive this is one of his best efforts. You really get to know the characters and the narration is great. His great imagination and intelligence are really on display in this book. Very entertaining.
Absolutely the worst book I've ever listened to. The story is disjointed and rambling and the narration is more than annoying. Compared to Phillip Pullman's riveting trilogy "His Dark Materials", also about parallel universes, this book lacks imagination, character development and a cohesive storyline. Don't waste your money. I wish I hadn't.
