This is erotica, nothing that is going to win a Pulitzer Prize, as long as you go into it with that expectation I think you will like it.
This is the story of a woman who knows she wants the submissive life and is trying to get it, then there are two Doms that are willing to train her. So the hot scenes are hot, and the backstory was a bit shaky, but overall it was an enjoyable listen to watch how everyone's path unfolds.
Narrator doesn't do male voices well but her emotion was good. I got this book on sale and it was totally worth it, if I had paid full price I don't think I would have been happy, but I didn't, so I am :-)
Put it in your wish list and audible will let you know when it's on sale.
This book is the age old story of a boss lusting after his secretary, but done very well and it kept me interested. The leading lady has been putting up with her overbearing bosses crud for 5 years, all the while planning her future with her fiance who is just about done in dental school...she has a plan, he will finish school, get a great job and she can quit the second job she has been working to make ends meet and then she will get to go back to school....5 years she has been working on this plan and the month before their wedding she finds him with another woman in a compromising situation. Now she has to move on with her life and deal with her boss...a man who has secretly wanted her for 5 years and would have never let her get married...he was just biding his time until she realized she was with an idiot, well his time is now and he won't let her go!
This is technically book 5, and there were some references to past books, but I was able to keep up just fine and enjoy the story. In fact, I just put all the books into my wishlist to gobble up if there is ever a sale on them because they sounded great!
Narrator was great too, all around nice steamy listen!
The narrator was HORRIBLE!!!!! She sounds like a ditzy bubble gum popping valley girl, and all the male voices are done in a sinister whisper, like that's going to be attractive?
*shudder* not even going to try to get through this, too dang annoying! No idea if the story is good so I have it 3 stars.
So I looked through the reviews before I bought this book and I am always intrigued when there are rave reviews and scathing reviews, but I get it now. This book had a great world, and great story line, I give it 5 stars plus! There is only one woman in the world who can bring balance and peace to the Feral Warriors, men who can change to animals at will to protect the world against evil creatures bent on devouring those in their path. This one woman is called the Radiant, because she can pull forth the power from mother earth that gives these Feral warriors the ability to shift and the ability to stay sane, without the Radiant they become unbalanced and eventually die.
We open up our story with the leading lady/Radiant tending to her dying mother and Lion has been sent to find her and bring her back to Feral House to balance his people. She woke up with a mark on her shortly after Christmas but has been raised as human and had no idea what it meant...that it meant her human life was shortly going to be over. Needless to say she is a bit taken aback that she is supposed to be whisked away to another place away from everything she has ever known, and he doesn't understand why she wasn't raised with her people, and how to explain to her everything she is and everything she means to his, to their, people.
Interesting story right? Welllllllll it got a bit hokey. If you go into this knowing that it's going to get hokey you can be prepared that it's not a literary classic and shouldn't be treated as such. 95% of the story was hot, and heavy, and yummy yummy yummy! The last 5% I just stared at my phone and said "WTF"? It's like it jumped writers during the last 5% of the book and this writer is into the off the wall HUH? moments.
I'd still read book 2 if it were on sale, and maybe even if it weren't. It was a decent book with well developed characters, a great world and premise, and hot scenes...but it's not a contemporary literary classic....when you hear the word "clone" you will understand what I mean!
Overall I liked the narrator, and I liked the writing, so I give it a thumbs up, just be prepared for the preposterous moments, it IS fiction after all!
Have you ever read a book and you know it's heading for a train wreck and you just roll your eyes and moan and say "REALLY?!?!?!?!?" That's where I am with this book.
This ticks two VERY bad boxes:
1. Main character does a complete 180 in under 2 pages. He's a love 'em and leave 'em type of guy, never sleeps with the same girl more than once....BUT...as soon as he see's Raven, the hot car mechanic his entire personality goes out the window!
2. Contrived drama for the sake of progressing the plot. I tried, I really did, I wanted to believe that the main character wasn't going to let me down, but let's just say she is the nearly 21 year old VIRGIN daughter of a prostitute and Vegasas most notorious pimp..how could this character not let me down.
So, I'm half way through the book and the bomb of all bombs has been dropped...daddy dearest wants his darling little girl to "work" for him....nope I'm done, Audible will be handing me back a credit for this one, just wanted to warn y'all first.
The narrator was amazing though, I would listen to her again and again!
This book told us about an honorable highlander, who is scared by his past, and a young lady who is funny and strong but still is waiting for her father's approval. It was heartbreaking to hear of the Laird's first wife, but even more heartbreaking to hear of a noble daughter relegated to servants work and a father who never wanted anything to do with her.
The antics these two get up to was very amusing and I would definitely listen to a story by this author and narrator again.
Rebelonging was a wonderful conclusion! Our leading man is groveling, as well he should be! And our leading lady is not taking his crap, nor should she! As Chloe's life continues to spiral I did find one serious problem with the story...the use of the phrase "Do I have to spell this out for you?"..I didn't get the kindle version but I wouldn't be surprised if a word search showed it used at least 12 times in this story *SIGH*...and there was some drama for the sake of drama and misinformation that could have been cleared up easily yet wasn't. It didn't overwhelm the book though, but it was enough to demote one of my favorite couples ever to a 4 star story.
I laughed SO hard at so many parts of this book, I had to watch which parts I actually took a sip of soda during because well just the thought of these things happening in real life to someone I know made me laugh until my stomach hurt! Needless to say when Chloe finally makes her declaration of who and what she is Laughten's misinterpretation of what she was saying sent me into hysterical laughter! Then the Thanksgiving thing, and the aftermath, freaking priceless! I actually wished this story had a part three maybe involving the kid brother and grandma and a happily ever after, so I am going to cross my fingers...but hearing about Loretta's new job made me smile ear to ear!
I have downloaded what is kind of the third book which is about Bishop going after the girl of his dreams but I'll reserve judgement until I read it...I would like to visit these characters again, they are smart and funny and wind up in the most hilarious situations!
Unbelonging grabs you from minute one and doesn’t let you go, but warning this is book one of two but I have now read both. I’m usually not a great fan of contrived drama but this book kind of had some. Why kind of….well because the secrets were necessary and not just because the characters were being stupid or written poorly. You could see the blow up coming and why but I was still intrigued as to HOW it was going to blow up and what the characters would do when it did. I was very impressed that although the characters were in their early 20’s this wasn’t a YA book, these people had real life problems and I really enjoyed getting to know them.
Chloe is a hardworking 23 year old. She is a recent college graduate but she can’t find a decent paying accountant job so she works as a waitress in a theme restaurant. To make money on the side she offers herself as a house sitter to the rich while they are away on vacations….she pretends to be a girl from an upper class family who doesn’t really need the money, but in reality she desperately needs money to support her grandmother. She is a highly likable character who tries to think through every move and no matter what happens she winds up in a heap of mess….reminded me of the Jane Jamison Character of Molly Harper, things just happen to this poor girl. She doesn’t want drama, she doesn’t like drama, yet drama finds her nearly every day!
Enter Logan…he lives down the block from Chloe’s most current house sitting gig, he doesn’t know who she is, all he knows is the girl walking the little yippee yorkie is HOT, and he wants her. Logan is a former fighter/reality TV star and he now owns many fitness centers and is filthy rich, but he’s at heart just a poor kid from the bad part of Detroit, and all the money in the world doesn’t make him feel like he belongs. He tries to play the playboy, two girls at one time, don’t take anything too seriously…etc…but his life is hollow until he meets Chloe, now he doesn’t know how to live without her.
At the end of this book Logan has made a colossal mistake in mistrusting Chloe…you can’t blame the guy really because it did look bad and Chloe has never been forthright in who she really is or where she really lives because well she can’t. In order to be a proper house sitter no one can know that the house is empty, her STRICT confidentiality is something she takes pride in; no one knows the owners are gone, take care of the dog/plants exactly how she was instructed (some plants drink in the morning and some at night you see…hehehe), and above all no guests allowed in the house and she isn’t going to change her moral code for some guy.
Really enjoyed the story and the narrator! Couldn’t wait to auto download book 2, which is the conclusion. Highly recommended!!!!
I got this book based on a glowing review of someone I usually agree with, sadly this time we disagree. While it wasn't a bad book nothing really happened. It can be summed up by saying one girl, two alphas that agree to share the one girl for the good of the pack...but even the hot scenes weren't too hot...and the girls job is to make babies and not complain that she has to live in a cave.
The narrator was male, therefor all the females sounded like males, and the one male sounded like a robot, which may or may not have been character based...either way it didn't work for me.
I would pass on this book, maybe get it when it is $4.95 some time, but not worth a buy or a credit.
I have listened to tons of books narrated by Angela Dawe and loved them, the psy changling series in particular, but dear God her voice was grating on my soul with this one!
I gave it an hour and a half and then had to shut it off. The story was droning on and on and on about absolutely nothing, it was a really bad Seinfeld episode, except not funny at all.
I don't understand the high reviews and I can't bring myself to listen any more.
This series has been so entertaining, I'm sad there aren't more right now. In the first book Liz and Brady are fighting to be together, in the second book they are fighting to be apart and in this final installment we see them fighting the world together. *sigh* I'm so sad to see these two go and so happy that the author does plan on releasing two more books from this world, "Struck from the record" and "Broken Record"...just wish they were already here!
I search high and low for series like this. No one is broken, or was abused, no mental scars that make them unlovable. These two just fell in love when the universe didn't think it was a good time to and watching them fight that love and then embrace that love...*sigh*...oh it was wonderful to read! They had their ups and downs but got there HEA in the end and just leaves you feeling like you can go out an conquer the world!
Man I love this series!!!!
