Years ago, Evangeline Hollis spent a blistering night with a darkly seductive man she can’t forget. But that evening of addictive pleasure has become a disaster of biblical proportions: She’s been branded with the Mark of Cain. Now Eve is thrust into a world where sinners are marked and drafted to kill demons. Her former one-night stand, Cain, is now her mentor - and his equally sexy brother Abel is her new boss.

    Story

Let me say first that book 2 is downloading as I type.

This series predates the crossfire series but man oh man does it pack a punch (or seven).

There is a whole world here that reminds me of the guild hunter series with its complex rules and nuances. I really hope audible gets more of these soon, right now there is just book 2.

So, what's the book about? Well, there is the biblical Cain and Abel but to be honest I'm not much of a religious person so on the bright side I went into this book without preconceptions! Adam and Eve had Cain and Abel. God punished Cain for killing his brother over a woman and sentenced him to be his executioner, he roams the earth doing Gods bidding....but he isn't particularly happy about it.

A woman Cain slept with 10 years ago, Evangeline, has been chosen to be a "MARK", this is for all intents and purposes a demon slayer.... But not all demons are bad, you have to be assigned by your handler to a particular demon hunt and until you are trained you are paired with a mentor. Eve's mentor is Cain, who moved heaven an earth to be assigned to her....and her handler is Abel....oh this is going to go well! (NOT)

The world is complex and cool and it is narrated by the lady who did the crossfire series so we get to hear THE voice if Gideon, oops I mean Cain, oh who are we kidding that is just a smokin' hot voice!!!! And there is enough sexual tension between Cain/Eve/Abel that I'm dying to know where this goes!

One word of advice, don't listen to the first chapter until after the last chapter.....it won't make sense and you will think the book is rubbish. 95% of the book is a flashback....or you can skip first chapter, listen at the end, and poof the book is magical!

I did it, I broke down and actually *gulp* purchased these three books...darn mini series that actually just makes one complete book. After reading book 2 in the series, The Master, I was intrigued by this book which the highlights were given in book 2.

It was interesting how Natalie was just a normal college student looking for her birth parents, she knew she was adopted so now that she was older she wanted to know where she came from. All she knew was that she was from an orphanage in Russia...so she started there. She has been on the search for 6 years, working multiple jobs to pay for this obsession and just hoping to find her parents, and some answers.

Alexia the Siberian has been sent to watch over the small woman who is his bosses biological daughter, his Mafia Boss...she is perfect...she is amazing...she is forbidden...and she doesn't know he exists....when he is alerted that two cruel enemy men have been dispatched to find her and kill her his time is up he must make his presence known. Finding out that you are a Russian Mafia Princess in hard, finding out that there are killers after you and you need to leave Nebraska is harder, but fighting the attraction for one scary gorgeous Mafia Protector could be her undoing...and so the story of Natalie and Alexia begins!

Narrator was very good, I did have some problems with the end of the story but book 2 makes up for it in a BIG way!

I recommend waiting for a sale to get all 3, too cheap to use credits and I didn't appreciate having to pay basically full price for a book because it was in 3 parts, but I will be downloading the third book as soon as it is available, whenever that is!

Former small-town girl Amery Hardwick is living her dream as a graphic designer in Denver, Colorado. When her friend signs up for a self-defense class as part of her recovery after an attack, Amery joins her for support. That's where she meets him. Ronin Black, owner of the dojo, is so drawn to Amery that he takes over her training - in public and in private. It had potential, it did but both the story and the female narrator ruined it!

The owner of the Dojo is hot and appealing but he also uses these awkward phrases to try to be all Zen-like and it comes across as fake and ridiculous, partly due to the narrator over pronouncing things and lack of emotion at key points....when the guy asks the girl do you want me to do blank to you and she answers "yes" it should probably be a moaning yes not a robotic yes like someone asked you if you took milk in your coffee!

When The Professional, book 1, first came out in 3 different parts I said no freaking way I am NOT getting 3 books for $4 and change each, that's WHY I have credits so I don't have to deal with things like that....then book 2 came out and I said well, since it's all together why not try it....holy crud!!!!!!!!!!!!

Murder, mafia, mayhem, hot, HOT, HOTTTTTTT scenes....alpha male, distressed female that still has a wicked backbone and yummy yummy scenes!!! WOW just wow, next book is an instant download, FOR SURE!

Now I have to break my promise to myself and *gulp* pay for that 3 part book because although this one is a decent stand alone hearing what happened in that first book makes me want to listen to it SOOO bad!

Guess what, the hype is real, and this book is totally worth it on every level!

Narrator....sigh....I really liked all the different voices, she portrayed the different characters wonderfully but I had to take off a star because the Spanish speaking leading lady sounded Russian, not Hispanic, but other than that totally awesome narration!

Yes, this story jumped back and forth from present to past (A LOT) but it was easy to keep up with and had really great story lines in both timelines. I really like how this author writes and would download her next book without blinking!

Narration was great, worthy of a credit.

The leading lady is apparently oblivious to her attractiveness and lets everyone in her life, specifically her roommate, tear down her self esteem at every turn! The roommate eats her food, has no respect for her and just has sex on the couch and blames her for walking in, and is a total witch to her and she just takes it and takes it and poof a mysterious man who is a bad boy type keeps randomly showing up in her life and once again she is okay with drips and drabs of attention...UGH, done! I can't listen to this doormat anymore!

My cock has an appetite. A huge and very particular appetite: blond, curvy, and preferably not a fucking liar... (Although that's a story for another day.) As a high-profile lawyer, I don't have time to waste on relationships, so I fulfill my needs by anonymously chatting and sleeping with women I meet online. My rules are simple: one dinner. One night. No repeats. This is only casual sex. Nothing more. Nothing less. At least it was until Alyssa...

While the story did grab me as it unraveled I found it VERY disappointing. Our leading man had a lot of secrets and sometimes he kept those secrets just for the sake of continuing the story…I liked the strong female lead but at the same time how many chances do you give one man before you have to cut all ties for self-preservation purposes?

Too many convoluted story lines and one crushing story line about the death of a child….while I finished the book it did not leave me with any sense of a happily ever after euphoric moment I usually get when I finish reading a good book, instead it left me an emotional jumble for the hoops my head and heart went through to get to an ending that should have been simple to get to.

Not recommended….even though the narrators did an excellent job, BOTH OF THEM!

As in book 1 we find ourselves engulfed in a psychic world full of people after the psychic and only one of the brothers can protect her...except really I have to say he does a piss poor job of it. I have to say this series doesn't have the typical steam of a Maya book, but it was still okay to read.

Recommend you save it for a sale, it's kind of short and well not a lot going on.
