Phineas McKinney thought New York City was tough, until he was attacked by Malcontents - evil vampires who consider mortals to be snacks. Saved by the good vampires, Phin swore to devote his now undead life to stopping the Malcontents. He's got his job cut out for him when word comes that their enemy may be hiding in Wyoming. What does a city boy like him know about horses and campfires? Good thing he's got Brynley Jones with him... if only she didn't hate every vampire on earth.

I have loved reading and listening to this series from the beginning, and was so excited to hear that we were going to get The Love Doctor's story! I will be getting it from the library TO READ myself- because P.J.Ochlan is one of the most boring audible readers I have ever listened to. Phin grew up in the Bronx- had a tough childhood, got in trouble with the law, and was unwillingly changed to a vampire- he has a life's story- and this reader is about as vanillla and undimensional as a reader can get. When I read the book myself, I'm sure I will enjoy it immensely, but listening to it is quite the drag. Keep up the good work Ms Sparks, but please vet your readers better.

If you could sum up Hillbilly Rockstar in three words, what would they be?

I've been looking forward to Dev's story since Turn and Burn came out. Lorelei James does a great job of portraying what goes into a musician's life- the long hours and the incredible lengths groupies will go to 'own' a piece of their 'idol'. I'm really happy that she included Liberty's story as the kick-ass woman and ex-soldier she is, dealing with the problems that often accompany our military. Enough said so I don't spoil anything. I do have to say though- the Wright Brothers? They have been playing a secret role in my fantasies....Oh, yeah :)

What was one of the most memorable moments of Hillbilly Rockstar?

When Devin tells Liberty why he hasn't had intercourse in a few years and she gets how messed up the groupies are and how much it affects the actions of the musicians.

    Which scene was your favorite?

When Liberty takes Devin to the bowling alley for some karaoke, no one recognizes him and some guy tells him to 'get off the stage' while the MC tells him that he just chose the wrong song and she could give him some advice to help him out. So funny!

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

I would seriously go to any movie about LJ's books. I don't go to many movies( boring) but I'd see her stories.

    Any additional comments?

I hope LJ keeps the great western books coming and bringing them out in audio. Thanks for the great work.

What would have made Saved by the Rancher better?

No one- so damaged that they are unconscious for over 24 hours and then wakes with PTSD- trusts the first man they meet and immediately start to have romantic feelings for the stranger. And I have yet to meet a man that sees a woman so badly abused but can't help himself from having romantic feelings. Doesn't happen. What would have made this book better? A more believable premise.

It's Christmas in Half-Moon Hollow and newly turned vampire Iris Scanlon-Calix wants to make Gigi's first visit home from college as normal and special as possible. It's taken months for Iris to work up the nerve to spend time around her baby sister after her vampire transition, so she enlists help from Jane Jameson and Company to keep her blood-thirst under control and assure Gigi's safety. Gigi, on the other hand, has problems of her own, including the demise of her relationship with high school sweetheart, Ben, and a looming job interview with Ophelia Lambert, the scariest potential employer in the Hollow.

What made the experience of listening to I'm Dreaming of an Undead Christmas the most enjoyable?

This is a great story- coming from Gigi's perspective just as she is finishing college. But we are left HANGING! It's not finished! When is the rest of the story coming out? I gotta know who that new Vamp is, and now I've got to wait. Darn it. When it comes out, I think it will be worth the credit- I already like the first 3 hours.
Amanda Ronconi provides the vocals for this story as with the rest of the series and as always nails it. Thank you, you are appreciated.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Cal- he has taken on the role as the male protector/father figure for Gigi and is loving it.
Colin, just cause he is still so stiffly British and uncomfortable around others. :)

    Any additional comments?

Trust Dick to get a giant hamster ball! LOL!

Lady Philippa Marbury is...odd. The brilliant, bespectacled daughter of a double marquess cares more for books than balls, for science than the season, and for laboratories than love. She's looking forward to marrying her simple fiancé and living out her days quietly with her dogs and her scientific experiments. But before that, Pippa has two weeks to experience all the rest - 14 days to research the exciting parts of life. It's not much time, and to do it right she needs a guide familiar with London's darker corners.

What did you love best about One Good Earl Deserves a Lover?

I liked Lady Pippa- she's so bright and well-read with very little understanding of people. Cross has a troubled past- but with highly inappropriate behaviour, she manages to get him to pull out of himself- all very entertaining. One of the most amusing of the stories in this series so far. I recommend it for a credit.

What was one of the most memorable moments of One Good Earl Deserves a Lover?

When Cross is trying to get her to leave by being deliberately rude- a real stretch for him- and she just looks at him and says- 'I wish you would call me Pippa', like he wasn't even talking.

Enough said- my headline says it all. I LOVE the books on the Smith and Van Holtz packs and when read by Ms Kane, they are even better than reading them. But this is read by someone that is very one-dimensional in his narration with abysmal accents. He is obviously not an actor as he doesn't emote very well- he is just 'reading' it. I wish I had read it and not wasted a credit.

I read this book before I listened to it on audio. Should have not done the audio. The narrator sounded like she was eating or sucking on candy the whole time, and her accents were not all that good- admittedly, how many people would know what a Welsh accent sounds like? It doesn't sound like they got to Wales via Jamaica, though.

The content of the book is a good story, well written and entertaining- I've read the whole series and enjoyed it. If they change up the narrator in the subsequent issues, it would be worth checking out, but this reader makes a good story painful. Too bad.

These are great stories by some wonderful and popular authors- I read this book a couple of times and decided to spend the credit- I knew the entertainment I was getting.

Johanna Parker gives an excellent performance- with the exception of pronouncing valet as val-et with an e and hard 't' instead of the French way va-lay. Do they not do a sound edit just like they would edit a written page?

Regardless, I found this book a good deal and the cost of a credit. Enjoy!

The West was not so wild for Janie Fitzhugh. Living with her rancher husband, Abe Lawson, in rural Wyoming nearly broke her spirit, so she left. But eight years later, she returns to Muddy Gap to take a job at a new resort. When an unexpected danger arises, Abe seizes the chance to protect Janie and prove he's a changed man. Janie's employer at the Split Rock Ranch and Resort, Renner Jackson, has gotten himself tangled up in a devil's bargain trying to finish the construction. His new partner's daughter, Tierney Pratt, is a spoiled daddy's girl and off-limits-no matter how drop-dead gorgeous she is.

Two! You get two hot stories in one! This is a great book and the stories are well woven together and resolve several of the loose ends that had been brought up in the previous stories. The common theme between the stories is that where there is love there is a way. It doesn't matter if you have been divorced for eight years or a two time loser up the aisle- when it's right you just have to put it out there and convince her to say yes. Fortunately, the cowboys in LJ's world are such prime examples of masculine goodliness that any woman would say 'Hell Yes!'. I think I'm going to Wyoming next year on holiday and pray I meet someone like the men in her books.

Scarlet does a great job of narrating and I liked the little 'bite' to her voice when she speaks in Tierney's voice- nailed it!

I was happy to see this is Tana's story and got an even happier when I saw it combined with Fletch's! (He's been the star of many of my secret fantasies ;) This is a well written story that covers the usual gammet of love and confusion- but also touches on the problems of PTSD and how 'what you do' is not 'who you are'- for both Tana and Fletch. I don't want to give a spoiler but will say that it is worth the credit, and I suspect that the next book is Tobin's. Whoooooweee!

Scarlet Chase does a good job of narrating with the possible exception of Fletch. She has given him a slight aboriginal accent- but he's a guy that had rarely if ever been on the reservation and was raised by his caucasian father and had scarce if any memories of his native mother. Eli's accent is stronger- which with the more frequent connections to his people makes more sense. Otherwise the narration if fine.

    Story

LJ did a great continuation of the Lawson and friends with Kyle's and Celia's story. She provides a wonderfully empathetic viewpoint of ranchers where 'Cowboy up' is a way of life- you work through the pain( emotional and physical) and never let 'em see you hurt or sweat. She captures the western way of life, where family and ranch come first- loyalty, grit and determination are both expected and appreciated. The brother's raised Celia from an early age due to the death of their parents, and not having the influence of a mother and father is subtly expressed throughout the book for all three of the siblings. I won't do a spoiler so will leave it at that. Is it worth a credit? Absolutely!

Scarlet Chase does a wonderful job of the voices, accents and emotion- I hope there will be more books from this series done on audio and she will continue to provide the sound. Enjoy!
