  • Straight Flush: The True Story of Six College Friends Who Dealt Their Way to a Billion-Dollar Online Poker Empire - and How it All Came Crashing Down...

    • UNABRIDGED (7 hrs and 8 mins)
    • By Ben Mezrich
    • Narrated By Sean Pratt
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Based on extensive insider interviews and participation, acclaimed author Ben Mezrich's Straight Flush tells the captivating rags-to-riches tale of a group of University of Montana frat brothers who turned a weekly poker game in the basement of a local dive bar into, one of the largest online companies in the world. But then the U.S. Department of Justice placed a bull's-eye on Absolute Poker. Did they fold - or double down and ride their hot hand?

    Mark K. Anduss says: "Shatner?"
"Great story and a fun listen!"
What did you love best about Straight Flush?

I loved the feeling I got listening to the story and trying to capture how the characters felt in different situations.

What was the most compelling aspect of this narrative?

The story from rags to riches to rags...all though not exactly. But I liked how the story evolved and it was fun to hear about how a few guys with an idea made a profitable business.

Have you listened to any of Sean Pratt’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

High stakes, high flying, pure enjoyment!

Here is THE book recounting the life and times of one of the most respected men in the world, Warren Buffett. The result is the personally revealing and complete biography of the man known everywhere as "The Oracle of Omaha."

    Richard J. Riker says: "2,220 well-invested minutes!"
"Too long and too much detail."
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

No, unless they have 35+hours to spare.

Would you be willing to try another book from Alice Schroeder? Why or why not?

Yes, but it depends on the person and length of the story.

Did The Snowball inspire you to do anything?

Yes, think more about my inner scorecard.

  • The Everything Store: Jeff Bezos and the Age of Amazon

    • UNABRIDGED (13 hrs)
    • By Brad Stone
    • Narrated By Pete Larkin
(1161) started off delivering books through the mail. But its visionary founder, Jeff Bezos, wasn't content with being a bookseller. He wanted Amazon to become the everything store, offering limitless selection and seductive convenience at disruptively low prices. To do so, he developed a corporate culture of relentless ambition and secrecy that's never been cracked. Until now.

Brock says: "An amazing company with an amazing story!"
"Great story and a fun listen!"
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No I can't sit that long in one spot.

    Any additional comments?

Interesting to learn more about Amazon and Jeff Bezos.

  • What the Most Successful People Do Before Breakfast: And Two Other Short Guides to Achieving More at Work and at Home

    • UNABRIDGED (5 hrs and 1 min)
    • By Laura Vanderkam
    • Narrated By Laura Vanderkam

Laura Vanderkam has combined her three popular mini auidobooks into one comprehensive guide, with a new introduction. It will help listeners build habits that lead to happier, more productive lives, despite the pressures of their busy schedules. Through interviews and anecdotes, she reveals...What the Most Successful People Do Before Breakfast - to jump-start the day productively. What the Most Successful People Do On the Weekend - to recharge and prepare for a great week. What the Most Successful People Do at Work - to accomplish more in less time.

Cynthia says: "Annoying, but worth the listen"
"Not very insightful, I was hoping for so much more"
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

If you don't get up in the morning to workout at the gym and are jumping out of bed to rush to work this could be a decent book for you.

What do you think your next listen will be?

Something to do with business, finance, or a bio.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Laura Vanderkam?

Not sure I don't know the narrator scene.

    Any additional comments?

I was hoping for discussions with more successful CEO's about their mornings. I didn't feel like there was enough analysis of the morning activities of a CEO or many statistics to prove any of the analysis. I think this is an interesting topic but for me it fell way short of my expectations.

  • Steve Jobs

    • UNABRIDGED (25 hrs and 19 mins)
    • By Walter Isaacson
    • Narrated By Dylan Baker
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Based on more than 40 interviews with Jobs conducted over two years—as well as interviews with more than a hundred family members, friends, adversaries, competitors, and colleagues—Walter Isaacson has written a riveting story of the roller-coaster life and searingly intense personality of a creative entrepreneur whose passion for perfection and ferocious drive revolutionized six industries: personal computers, animated movies, music, phones, tablet computing, and digital publishing.

    Jeanne says: "Interesting man"
    "Great story!"
What made the experience of listening to Steve Jobs the most enjoyable?

To learn the background stories of the iPod, iPhone, iPad and other Apple products.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Steve Jobs?

Realizing that Steve was super passionate about creating great products.

    Any additional comments?

Anyone who likes technology and business, regardless of your taste for Apple products, should listen/read this bio. I have been an Android user from the beginning and pushed back on purchasing Apple products but after listening to Steve's bio I am now more likely to buy an Apple product. Steve's main goal was to take technology and all of its complexities and develop simple, easy to use products for everyday people. I very much appreciate his ability to develop great products and continually set the bar for the industries in which Apple participated. I applaud his efforts and accomplishments as he merged technology and liberal arts so wonderfully.
