After a long and eventful life, Allan Karlsson ends up in a nursing home, believing it to be his last stop. The only problem is that he's still in good health, and in one day, he turns 100. A big celebration is in the works, but Allan really isn't interested (and he'd like a bit more control over his vodka consumption). So he decides to escape. He climbs out the window in his slippers and embarks on a hilarious and entirely unexpected journey, involving, among other surprises, a suitcase stuffed with cash.

This book had the dry humor of (or satire) hitchhikers guide to the galaxy combined with a Forest Gump type story line if Forrest Gump were a terrorist :-)

I can see how this doctor's ethical approach is a valuable lesson to med students. However, the concepts are extremely elementary. If you are a student of medicine in any capacity, you likely have surpassed the teachings here. If you are not, I don't know that you will get much benefit from these stories either.

The hero of John Kennedy Toole's incomparable, Pulitzer Prize-winning comic classic is one Ignatius J. Reilly, "huge, obese, fractious, fastidious, a latter-day Gargantua, a Don Quixote of the French Quarter". His story bursts with wholly original characters, denizens of New Orleans' lower depths, incredibly true-to-life dialogue, and the zaniest series of high and low comic adventures.

The irascible A. J. Fikry, owner of Island Books - the only bookstore on Alice Island - has already lost his wife. Now his most prized possession, a rare book, has been stolen from right under his nose in the most embarrassing of circumstances. The store itself, it seems, will be next to go. One night upon closing, he discovers a toddler in his children’s section with a note from her mother pinned to her Elmo doll: I want Maya to grow up in a place with books and among people who care about such kinds of things. I love her very much, but I can no longer take care of her.

I very much enjoyed this little gem. I don't agree with some reviews in that the reader was too monotone, or too dramatic. I think the reader lended a soothing voice for an overall all enjoyable-easy listen. The story itself, while not epic, was very good.

If I said anything about that surprise it would ruin it; but this is a wonderful book worth listening to, definitely worth a credit and one of the best I've listened to in a while!
