Offred is a Handmaid in the Republic of Gilead, serving in the household of the enigmatic Commander and his bitter wife. She may go out once a day to markets whose signs are now pictures because women are not allowed to read. She must pray that the Commander makes her pregnant, for in a time of declining birthrates her value lies in her fertility, and failure means exile to the dangerously polluted Colonies. Offred can remember a time when she lived with her husband and daughter and had a job, before she lost even her own name....

I'm feeling pretty neutral about this book. It wasn't bad, it just wasn't really what I am into.

I picked this book from a recommendation and went into it blind with no expectations. It took me quite some time to figure out the setting was in the past of the future instead of the past of the present.

It was not a boring listen, it was well written but I'm not looking for another of its kind like I would after a really good book.

The novel opens with the vampire world in crisis… vampires have been proliferating out of control; burnings have commenced all over the world, huge massacres similar to those carried out by Akasha in The Queen of the Damned… Old vampires, roused from slumber in the earth are doing the bidding of a Voice commanding that they indiscriminately burn vampire-mavericks in cities from Paris and Mumbai to Hong Kong, Kyoto, and San Francisco.

Don Tillman, professor of genetics, has never been on a second date. So when an acquaintance informs him that he would make a "wonderful" husband, his first reaction is shock. Yet he must concede to the statistical probability that there is someone for everyone, and Don sets out to find the perfect partner. She will be punctual and logical - most definitely not a barmaid, a smoker, a drinker, or a late-arriver. Yet Rosie Jarman is all these things. She is also beguiling, fiery, intelligent - and on a quest of her own....

This book choice was a last minute quick decision without reading reviews. I went into it without any expectations and was pleasantly surprised it was a very good book. Even more surprising I did not figure out the ending before it's time for me to. this book is definitely worth a credit

It is freezing in the churchyard, even before the dead arrive. Every year, Blue Sargent stands next to her clairvoyant mother as the soon-to-be dead walk past. Blue herself never sees them - not until this year, when a boy emerges from the dark and speaks directly to her. His name is Gansey, and Blue soon discovers that he is a rich student at Aglionby, the local private school. Blue has a policy of staying away from Aglionby boys. Known as Raven Boys, they can only mean trouble. But Blue is drawn to Gansey, in a way she can't entirely explain.

This was a very good story and I did enjoy listening to it except for the main characters obsessive compulsive tendency to repeat things over and over and over and. OVER AND OVER AND OVER!!! The repeating of certain things accompanied with the narrators baby voice used for the girl almost put me over the edge in certain parts of the story. If you can get past that, the storyline is very good.

I'm so angry this book made me feel so horrible. Life is full of ups and downs and there are plenty of situations in this world to feel sad about... I don't want to read a gut-wrenching tale of whoa that brings forth tears to the point of a stuffy nose!
I prefer uplifting happy tales to entertain me. Had I realized what I was getting into I would have never have even started this book :-(

In a Japan still rigid with tradition, an apprehensive 15-year-old tea-house girl prepares to welcome her first client. In his gleaming white uniform, Lieutenant Pinkerton walks up the hill to a house in Nagasaki to find the female he has purchased for a few weeks. When he sails away, she waits, aching for his return. It is one of the world’s great love stories. And, as the curtain falls on Madame Butterfly, Cho-Cho hands over her son to his American father, before killing herself...

Here is the story of two families, branches of the Solomons, transported to an alien land. Both branches eventually grow rich and powerful. But through three generations, the families never, for one moment, relinquish their hatred for each other. This novel is also the story of Australia, from its beginnings to its coming of age as a nation.
