  • Captive in the Dark: Dark Duet, Book 1

    • UNABRIDGED (7 hrs and 47 mins)
    • By CJ Roberts
    • Narrated By Emily Durante
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Caleb is a man with a singular interest in revenge. Kidnapped as a young boy and sold into slavery by a power-hungry mobster, he has thought of nothing but vengeance. For 12 years he has immersed himself in the world of pleasure slaves searching for the one man he holds ultimately responsible. Finally, the architect of his suffering has emerged with a new identity, but not a new nature.

Katheryne says: "Dark, disturbing, perverse…but I loved it!"
    "Captive Together"

    4.5 *

I've started this audio book not expecting romance or a happily ever after. I've been always drawn to this kind of dark and twisted stories and I knew this one would captivate me from the beginning and it will stay with me way long after I'm finished. Sometimes uncomfortable, very disturbing, I had planned to have a break if it was too much but didn't... I couldn't get away!

Such a difficult subject to write and already knew that some of us would actually have an hard time reading it, it's hard to deal with yes, but the author kept it so interesting, I was caught!

I've enjoy this very much and I will read everything dark CJ Roberts writes!

Chapters alternate from two different perspectives, we meet Olivia telling the story as first person and Caleb is told in third person and I got to say it works! Caleb's mind scares, intrigues me and has me feeling different emotions, his behavior, his actions ... being inside his head, when growing up or in between, as first person, it would be too much intense!

Caleb had an hard life growing up. Hell he hardly survived it... He grew to be a very dark and twisted person but also beautiful and his good looks saved him from the worst, he made time to learned to be powerful, dominant and his mind is a very dangerous cold place. Through the years, life told him he had no place for love or affection and he can't seem to deal with anyone who thinks he is worthy or capable of it. All he wants is power and control and an old vengeance commands him. You are drawn by him but in a wrong dangerous way.

Like Olivia was drawn to him, thought he was her hero, her savior, the sweet girl, only eighteen, inexperienced with men, hides with unshaped clothes, fearing all the wrong attention in her nasty neighborhood. She's been told at a young age not to be a whore or act like one! She is a good girl, loves her mother, helps her family but that doesn't work both ways, old issues surface from time to time. She's a survivor, with a strong spirit but has no clue how dark and twisted her life will turn!

Caleb has his mind set, his life has to mean something, quickly learns the trade, gets inside this dark world of human trafficking, teaching pleasure sex slaves to a purpose, an ultimate objective, to help his old friend, the man who saved him from slavery as a young boy, to revenge his wife and family murdered by a powerful, untouchable man, that they promised a slow death. I understand what drives him. Caleb owe him that much.

As it turned out Caleb, apart from kidnapping Livvie at first, doesn't really wants to harm her... well... he wants her to learn how to survive too. He takes pleasure in her fears, but keeps her safe, he protects her... wrong way of doing it, but what can I say, everyone loves a bad boy a little bit... they both are damage goods and as they spend time "captive" together, they both desperately need and want to be loved!

Not tying to romanticize this story, makes this raw and possible! Conflicts are everywhere, within the characters themselves and of course in me! It feels wrong to find Caleb mysterious sexy but you can ask the author after reading this story, how she did it!

Going to bed now to start "Seduced in the Dark (The Dark Duet #2)"

  • Ugly Love

    • UNABRIDGED (9 hrs and 14 mins)
    • By Colleen Hoover
    • Narrated By Grace Grant, Deacon Lee
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

When Tate Collins meets airline pilot Miles Archer, she doesn't think it's love at first sight. They wouldn't even go so far as to consider themselves friends. The only thing Tate and Miles have in common is an undeniable mutual attraction. Once their desires are out in the open, they realize they have the perfect set-up. He doesn't want love, she doesn't have time for love, so that just leaves the sex.

Missy says: "Another release day dedicated to C. Hoover!"
    "Everybody hurts... sometimes"

Although it's a good emotional and rough story, well written, after 50% of the book, I'm afraid I didn't like the most mercurial important character in the book. Yes I had hope it would be ok, but...

I don't understand him, so selfish!

You know, you're not alone Miles! Some people actually lost more than one love by accident or else and they moved on without leaving a wreck behind. Can't think of one good thing about Miles. He was smarter when he was 18... A man this big and so self center. I understand he's hurt but exaggerating words and silent, silence but deafening... duh

You're smart enough to know, your friends worry about you but you can't care less about them.

Ian was so good to you, even Corbin was taking care of you and most of all, Tate! How could you torture her so and not Rachel, who left you?
Are you aware they had feelings too and maybe they were hurt like you, before they met you?

    Everybody hurts... sometimes.

Loved Cap! What an amazing and wise old man! And I got to say that Tate saved a man who doesn't deserved to be saved at that moment.

All through the book, too much information about the "six years earlier" and I wasn't impressed. I wanted to know more about the present and the development and interaction between Miles and Tate.

I wanted more about the realization of Miles almost throwing his whole life away! His story was tragic, ok! But there's no hope, so why live and let others feel pain?

If you loved Maybe Someday, this isn't enough and doesn't come close.

I felt the ugliness not in the story, but in the character...

  • Beauty from Pain

    • UNABRIDGED (9 hrs and 9 mins)
    • By Georgia Cates
    • Narrated By Bunny Warren, Robert Black

Jack McLachlan is a winemaking magnate and easily one of Australia's most eligible bachelors. His success and wealth makes him no stranger to the complications of romantic relationships and that's why he goes to extreme measures to avoid the hassle. He prefers simplicity in the form of a beautiful female companion with no strings attached. He arranges relationships like business deals and they're always the same. No long term relationships. No real names.

heather says: "Great story! Very Hot."
    "Beauty from Pain?"

The writing was very simple, easy to read but I've been listening to the audio book and, well, I wasn't sure about the Aussie accent and all the terms... and the narrators almost killed it!
I did give it another go in a different speed, but the story was going nowhere fun... no plot to keep me curious at all, very predictable...

Maybe I'm wrong, I really wanted to love it based on the reviews, but I didn't, very frustrating instead.

Right, a love affair taking place for three months in Australia, do I want to be in bed all the time? Well he was called the cave man...

I wanted more story, more detail and the scenes could be great if they had developed and not end when it was getting fun!

I don't get the title of the book what it got to do with it?

The story feels empty and the end was not that surprising to get me all excited for the next book.

If I knew this story was so blah to me I wouldn't spend my credit at audible for it! :(

  • Revealed: The Missing Years: Consequences, Book 4

    • UNABRIDGED (10 hrs and 4 mins)
    • By Aleatha Romig
    • Narrated By Sebastian York
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

In Convicted we saw what happened that fateful afternoon at the Rawlings Estate. Now experience the shocking repercussions firsthand. More than a companion, this full-length novel fills in the gap of time that was only mentioned, beginning when Claire Nichols forgets and seen through the eyes of collective men (the HIS is plural). In Revealed: The Missing Years, listeners will see Anthony Rawlings fight for what belongs to him and cope with the reality of his past.

    MB says: "Again Loved it!"
"All the pieces of the puzzle!"

Revealed, gave me what I needed. Aleatha didn't disappoint! :)

I enjoyed seeing things through everyone's eyes:

Tony's, learning a true lesson. Justice, Punishment, Forgiveness and Hope.
    Harry’s closure, Roach's loyalty, I love him!
Claire’s family not so much, I hate Emily!
Loved Courtney and many thanks to Meredith!

And Meredith's book passages, Claire's own words and then, her journals, bringing her back to this world, wow!

How Claire's life, managed to change everyone's lives is so amazing!
I love this character, it will stay with me forever!

Claire deserves happiness, deserves everything! If she did forgive Tony then I hope and I do believe Tony loves Claire, I can believe him too!

Finally the happy ending!(Guessed the name of the baby boy!)

Something you didn't realize you were missing, becomes exactly what you need! That's what Tony felt and made him change!

I know the Consequences series are not for everyone. I understand all the conflict... But it's a good story, dark and hard to read but if you're in the mood, go for it! You don't want to disappoint Tony! ;)

I will miss this series, I’m sad to say goodbye!

Thank you Aleatha! This was an amazing journey!

    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

This companion is not a standalone book and should not be seen as such. This companion explores the thoughts and motivations of Anthony Rawlings and his struggle to accept the truth behind the consequences. It is not intended as a total rewrite of Truth, but meant to enhance the listener’s understanding. Behind His Eyes - Truth contains significant scenes from the novel Truth, as experienced from Anthony’s point of view.

    Monica Sofia says: "Oh Tony!"
    "Oh Tony!"

Inside Tony's mind with Sebastian York's voice :) crazy!

Behind His Eyes - Truth as a companion it works fine with me,
making me try to understand all of Tony's madness.

    Going for the next one:
Revealed - The Missing Years book four of Consequences for sure!

4.5* Yes I need to read Convicted to know if I'm wrong about the *

Another audible edition for me, I do have the kindle edition too but I'm that kind of audio book freak fan.

I had some trouble with the narrator, the first book but now I'm used to her voice and I think she mastered Tony's authoritarian demanding sounds to perfection! I'll never forget, It's a love and hate thing, I thought I never hated something or someone, but Listening to this

Just ended the book and now what the hell is wrong with me, I'm feeling sad, it's just like you saw a great movie you were waiting for a long time and now it's over and you're going home trying to fill the void and struggling to understand the story and match all the pieces of the puzzle.

I have to admit the author's crafty ability to write this story, developing such a complete, rich group of characters and a clever twisting plot! This I won't forget either. They all came live to me like a motion picture.

I know that Aleatha Romig's work has mix feelings around this readers world, but isn't that a brilliant amazing work when it makes you feel guilty when you find out that a character you hated now you like it a little bit even though you wanted to hated him again? when did that happen? When you feel all this emotions, isn't this a great reading/listening experience?

I recommend to listen to the audio book version if you think the story is to long, it's worth it!

Anthony, I can forget what you did and I can't forgive either. I now realize or did really soon (I'm a very perceptive person and clever too you know :)) someone else was pulling the strings, but every action was done by you. The supposed "dream" Claire had ... You had to learn to care, you're a smart man, what was that? But you were true, actions have consequences even for you... I knew your pain and desire to change, you turn Claire's world around but your world was spinning too! How's that turning for you? She learned from you and plays the game and handles all the twists and turns to perfection, you're fault!

So much is reveal in Truth! I'm guessing it's just the beginning, maybe the middle... This book definitely made my head spin and sometimes a lump in my throat. I was thinking some breaks would occur, I needed some time, but I was to much curious, I couldn't get away!
    It left me anticipating!

    So Convince me!

Anthony Rawlings had a plan - to teach Claire Nichols to behave. Claire Nichols had a plan - to survive! In an unfamiliar bedroom within a luxurious mansion, Claire Nichols wakes to memories of a brutal abduction. All of her recollections have one common denominator, the man she just met - Anthony Rawlings. Unbeknownst to Claire, Anthony has had her in his sights for a long time. Every action has consequences - and his actions resulted in their chance meeting. Facing incomprehensible circumstances, Claire must learn to survive as she comes to terms with her new reality.

    Marcheta says: "Chilling"

At the epilogue: Can't think right now
    ... I need revenge...

This was an audible version and for the first time, I had some trouble liking the narrator's voice... and knowing I'm going to listen to her forever in the next books... well I did try hard to put that behind and enjoy the audio book I'd just bought.

I heard so many things about this book it was hard to begin! But let's jump to it:

Never, listen to me! NEVER sign your name in anything like a blank paper or napkins, as innocent as it can be, this signature can change your life forever. You know better... Never leave sight of your drink either, never accept drinks from beautiful and sweet strangers, what are you thinking, that will never happen to you?

And then several days later you wake up, you're lost, no memory at all and locked up in a room all bruised and abused by that fine stranger.

Anthony Rawlings is no hero, not a good man! Creeps me out! I'm not used to this kind of male character, couldn't find his heart! Domineering, controlling freak!

Claire has an agreement with Anthony signed in an napkin. Duh! She believes it? Oh Claire... He says he will pay all her debts and in return she will work for him in any and many ways he wants.

This situation takes place at Tony's mansion and all of this is part of a very meticulous premeditated plan, that we get familiarized near the end of this BIG book!

There's a kidnap, a rape and a prison, she's verbal, physical, sexual and emotionally abused. How can this woman think she can see this man soul and change it?

Claire is admired for her strength and resilience. She plays his game frightened about the "Consequences". But there's no room for failure and some "glitches" cause this consequences... or he just will do whatever the f* he wants, wakes up to punish her or break her...

Is there enough room to compartmentalize... does Claire have it in her head and heart? She needs to, she's needs to survive... How do you do that? So many things you could do Claire?! You had the opportunity...

Sometimes he would be sweet and gentle, you think he begins to like her and you believe things are getting better, some requests are accepted and some rules forgotten, next time, no! Next second, without even blinking, could be something in the air, you dread it as this roller coaster plays out.

So many chapters with details that I didn't want to listen or care to know especially those from Nathaniel, needed to forget... That bored me... I tried to compartmentalize like Claire :) but as the story progressed I was more attentive to the details. I was scared for Claire's sake! What was she doing? Did he saw her? He knows everything!

At about 40% or 50% of the book something happens, an " accident" so tragic, horrible... It did upset me, just thinking about it, makes my stomach... Could I continue? Never had to put down a book, I'm not going to do that now either, but did thought about a little time out... Needed a happy place!

Loyalty, Appearances, Rules, wearing so many Masks, so much going on! Aghhh! No romance or sexiness happened in the book...

Hated all his actions, his shadow, his staff, how could he? How could they? Hated those black eyes so much! So vindictive! But why did I hoped for redemption? Seriously!

I'm glad I'm strong and resilient, so much better than Claire! I continued listening so I wouldn't miss out THAT ending! Never saw this coming!

Nice played Aleatha Romig! I was caught! I'm very curious about Truth! Can he do this to another woman? Is this all about power , money, looks and revenge?

This could be a movie, It felt like it, revealing only some details as you go along trying to figure it out or not!

Definitely not a love story! But it's a good story, give it a try!

At 22 years old, Sydney has a great life: She’s in college; working a steady job; in love with her wonderful boyfriend, Hunter; and rooming with her best friend, Tori. But everything changes when she discovers Hunter's cheating on her - and she is left trying to decide what to do next. Sydney becomes captivated by Ridge, her mysterious neighbor. She can’t take her eyes off him or stop listening to his playing his guitar every day out on his balcony. And there’s something about Sydney that Ridge can’t ignore, either.

Melissa Bee says: ""Listening" with Your Heart"
    "Say When"

Heart beat struggle :) It's almost 6 am! Need to sleep first so I can dream this review tomorrow!
Listening to Maybe Someday audio book and Griffin Peterson's original soundtrack was an experience, the music was perfect, a very important part of the story.
This story is told between the two main characters: Ridge and Sydney.

Can we truly love two people at the same time? If we can, then we probably can be broken twice.

Ridge has a girlfriend, Maggie, that everyone likes, they love and trust each other and that's all they want. Ridge loves music and feels music through his heart, something Maggie can't...

Sydney was betrayed by her boyfriend and her roommate best friend.
She has nowhere to go and she's alone and this all happened in her birthday! What a day to wake up!

Music brings Ridge and Sydney together, it's also the way they feel music that makes them fall in love with each other. Something about Ridge, makes the story turn in an whole new level. I couldn't imagine how this secret was going to be so important and loved how the author explored it into the story! I don't usually like love triangles, but I was so curious about the story now!

They work on songs together, writing them with words and melodies and wow the songs were so much more than words... it was an escape to what they truly feel without saying.
They fight their emotions, but feelings kept winning! It begins so sweet and innocence... but they know, this between them, can't happen and it gets so emotional, angst and heartbreaking.

Didn't want to hurt each other and sure didn't want to hurt Maggie... Sydney has been through the same path they were heading and that is not something they wanted to do to Maggie too, so they needed to end it.

We hear words about love, friendship, trust, loyalty, longing... words filled with such a passion that actually hurts!

Could this be fixed? Read it and find out!

I live music like the air I breathe, so you know, I stayed up some of my nights, just getting through the lyrics, trying to work the melodies and the ways these words could sound!
I searched for the soundtrack just when I ended the audio book.
The story was going so fast I didn't wanted to end, so it was really hard to put it down.

Loved all the pranks, learn a few!
    Grabbed the epilogue bonus!
Maggie deserved to be happy and free!

Enjoy this book! You'll get hooked immediately!

When literature student Anastasia Steele goes to interview young entrepreneur Christian Grey, she encounters a man who is beautiful, brilliant, and intimidating. The unworldly, innocent Ana is startled to realize she wants this man and, despite his enigmatic reserve, finds she is desperate to get close to him. Unable to resist Ana’s quiet beauty, wit, and independent spirit, Grey admits he wants her, too—but on his own terms.

    "Fifty Shades of Grey"

Ok, so I start to read The Sleeping Beauty Trilogy - a series of three novels written by Anne Rice under the pseudonym of A. N. Roquelaure. It's was torture sometimes I was in a dark, dark place... so when Fifty Shades came around I thought I'd give it a try and it was easy breezy, not that well written, ok, (I found better afterwards) but it made me laugh that a young woman could be so naive, liked the story very much, really softer than the Sleeping beauty attack... I just didn't get all the emails, they happen more in the 2nd book but they could send text messages by phone, smartphone, what was that about the emails? :)
