  • The Midwife of Hope River: A Novel of an American Midwife

    • UNABRIDGED (12 hrs and 4 mins)
    • By Patricia Harman
    • Narrated By Anne Wittman
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Midwife Patience Murphy has a gift: a talent for escorting mothers through the challenges of bringing children into the world. Working in the hardscrabble conditions of Appalachia during the Depression, Patience takes the jobs that no one else wants, helping those most in need - and least likely to pay. She knows a successful midwifery practice must be built on a foundation of openness and trust - but the secrets Patience is keeping are far too intimate and fragile for her to ever let anyone in.

    Linda says: "An amazing listen!"
    "Great Listen"
What made the experience of listening to The Midwife of Hope River the most enjoyable?

I just loved this book. The people were real with real problems, yet not overwhelming nor depressing. The story was good from the start and continued to keep going. It held my attention throughout. No slow spots or chapters you felt like fast forwarding through. I hope we hear more from this author

What did you like best about this story?

Which character – as performed by Anne Wittman – was your favorite?

    The midwife!

If you could take any character from The Midwife of Hope River out to dinner, who would it be and why?

The midwife of course. She is a strong courageous women I can admire.

    Any additional comments?

  • Shelter Mountain

    • UNABRIDGED (12 hrs and 45 mins)
    • By Robyn Carr
    • Narrated By Therese Plummer

Marine veteran John "Preacher" Middleton intimidates just about everyone who walks into his bar. But when an abused young mother comes in, seeking protection from her ex-husband, Preacher promises to become her guardian - and maybe something more.

Judy says: "These books are fantastic!"
    "Books should be rated!!!"
Would you try another book from Robyn Carr and/or Therese Plummer?

I really loved "Shelter Mountain" However I found myself very disappointed at the constant foul language. I know a lot of people don't think anything of it, but I don't enjoy hearing it all the time. I am very offended by the use of Jesus Christ name used in such a awful way. Why pick on him? I much prefer authors that can express pain, frustration, and other strong feelings without having to use curse words. We have a huge vocabulary of words! Why use the same one over and over? The story was good, I think the author needs to be a little mindful that all people may not enjoy having their ears blasted with constant cursing when listening to a good book. It is really too bad as I won't be reading anymore of the series as it ruins the whole book for me. Hummm I have to pay to listen to cursing.

If you’ve listened to books by Robyn Carr before, how does this one compare?

This my first and last, won't be listening to any more

What about Therese Plummer’s performance did you like?

She has a very good voice, very expressive, and easy to understand.

Did Shelter Mountain inspire you to do anything?

Yes, Stop listen to books that cannot make better use of the vast array of words in the English language.
