I'm rapidly becoming a fan of John Connolly. This is the second of his novels that I've listened to (The Reapers). Like Charlie Parker and love Louis & Angel. My only (minor) complaint about Whisperers is that Mr. Graham's voice seems about 15-20 years too young for that of Charlie Parker. I felt that Jay O. Saunders (The Reapers) was a better fit.
Hands down the best audiobook I've listened to this year (and it's my 21st of the year, but who's counting?). I found it to be compelling, entertaining, and inspirational (will probably listen to it at least 2 more times). If I thought I could talk my wife into moving the family to Vegas, I'd be searching Zappos' career page right now.
I've enjoyed Coben's Myron Bolitar series over the years and was excited to see a new installment. I'd rate Live Wire as O.K. (3 out of 5). Not as good as previous works -- saw predictable ending coming about an hour into the book. I also don't think that Weber's voice is a good match for Myron. Myron's a big dude (6'4")...a jock. Weber tries hard, but his Myron is flinty.
After working my way through Deutermann's Cam Richter series, I was a little nervous to try out a new protagonist. I should have known better. Deutermann writes a great thriller -- whether or not Cam and his pooches are involved.
I've been an Audible member for about a year now and have been through roughly 30 audiobooks. More than any other that I've purchased, I had a hard time getting through Dead I Well May Be. I have read that other reviewers were appalled by the extremely coarse language. I was prepared for that and not overly put off by the high number of four-letter words. However, I found the pacing incredibly slow at times. I felt somewhat rewarded for not giving up on the book by a solid conclusion. That said -- I'm not eager to listen to the two follow-ups in the series.
I listened to The Cat Dancers while driving through the Smokey Mountains going to and from Knoxville, TN from Charlotte, NC. This was the first P.T. Deutermann novel I've read and I enjoyed it tremendously. I've already purchased Spider Mountain -- the next book in the Cam Richter series.
Dick Hill's narration is absolutely masterful -- glad to see continuity throughout the series.
I was very impressed with the production quality of this selection. Having read 6 or 7 of Connelly's Harry Bosch novels, I felt that Mr. Cariou's narration was in keeping with the character. Although not a fan of jazz music, I felt that the musical interludes were a nice touch and added to the overall quality of the production. Well done!
