Story is a little slower then the first two books but has some big character building moments for Alvin. Card does a good job of letting the reader/listener learn with Alvin and see that he dosen't know everything right from the get go. He helps paint him as more then just a normal straight laced hero type character he makes some bad calls and even spiteful ones but they really help develop the character.

The wreckage of the starship Odyssey, once Earth's greatest guardian, lies strewn across New York City. Abandoned by all but its captain, Odyssey's sacrifice covered the withdrawal of countless troops as the Drasin assault ravaged the planet. When Captain Eric Weston finally emerges from the rubble, impossibly alive thanks to the mysterious "Gaia", he knows with the Drasin it's kill or be killed.

I am sure it is in part due to the change from Benjamin L. Darcie's slightly austere reading on the first 3 books to David deVries more boisterous delivery, but I can't quite make the Weston in this book match up with the character that was developed in the first three installments. Combine this with a major shift in the setting and action sequences and the whole book feels like it is trying to be a summer blockbuster with kitchy one liners at every turn. Really kind of disappointed in this one.

The Winter Queen of Faerie has manipulated Harry Blackstone Copperfield Dresden into accepting a case to solve a murder and stop a war between the courts of Summer and Winter that could have literally earth shattering consequences. His own soul is up for grabs. Dresden must dig deep to discover that at time a willingness to accept a little help from your friends, be they a cub pack of werewolves, old loves in sheep's clothing, or a battalion of pizza loving dewdrop fairies, is a very good thing.

After deciding to re-visit this series I read “Storm Front” and then realized that James Marsters was narrating the series and thought I would give it a try for “Fool Moon” and unfortunately by the end I was a little disappointed Marsters reading was a bit breathy and seemed to take a lot out of the action of some of the scenes as I recalled them. After that I decided to read “Grave Peril” as opposed to continuing the audio series but during that time I saw several reviews that said Marsters performance, or the direction he was given was markedly improved in the later books so I decided to give him another try for “Summer Knight” and he did not fail! Mr. Marsters delivered an amazing performance! The drawn out hesitations on lines was gone and the breathy deliveries was markedly dialed back so that there impact was much more prominent when needed, and I am sure that I was grinning like an idiot from sheer joy for the entirety of the final action scene!

When he was 19, James Stark was considered to be one of the greatest natural magicians, a reputation that got him demon-snatched and sent downtown - to Hell - where he survived as a gladiator, a sideshow freak entertaining Satan's fallen angels. That was 11 years ago. Now, the hitman who goes only by Stark has escaped and is back in L.A. Armed with a fortune-telling coin, a black bone knife, and an infernal key, Stark is determined to destroy the magic circle.

Picked this one up because the description sounded a bit like the Dresden series but it fell far short of the mark. It made me feel like the author wanted you to know that Stark was a real tough cookie but the slow roll on the reveal for his powers and the lack of explanation behind them really left me feeling let down. On top of that a lot of the driving plot lines didn't feel like the character was making the right choices to further the story but simply that things were just falling in his lap.
