This title did not disappoint me. I felt the reader did a decent job and once again her reading didn't detract from the story. I did like how she actually voiced each character differently. Some were corny but it wasn't the same voice for every character so I appreciated that a lot. I felt the book was an excellent follow up to the first one. It kept my attention span and I couldn't wait to see how all the events would unfold. Without giving the story away, I thought the author gave exactly what I look for in a book like this.. adventure, passion, angst, violence, incredible sex, love, desire, joy, sadness..all sorts of emotions that were great to go through chapter by chapter in this title. I felt like the author really tied the ends together from the first book in a interesting way. Cat and Bones are just two great characters that really work well together. The author did another great job!
I can't say that I enjoyed this book as much as I would have liked. Prior to this I had listened to Dirty which was excellent. So I think my expectations for this book were pretty high. I felt the reader did a decent job. The story is about a marriage between Sadie and Adam. Adam is left physically disabled after an accident early into their marriage. The story picks up some yrs after as Sadie and Adam are trying to cope. The story is told from Sadie's perspective. Joe is a man that Sadie meets for lunch the 1st of every month in which he tells her explicit sex escapades he's experienced. Each of the characters are clearly "broken" but in different ways. Adam once was a man full of life and very independent that now finds himself totally disabled and dependent. Sadie used to be a very happy and fufilled woman that wanted to explore life with her husband in every way. Joe is lost in a life of physically satifying but emotionally unfufilling sex flings that leave him empty and searching. For the record, this book is not about a physical affair though I would say emotional infidelity is involved. I would also venture to say that some people would think Adam took the coward's way out but with the depression and mental pain he clearly was dealing with, I understood why he did what he did. The book doesn't come right out and confirm it but there are clues in the book that make it pretty obvious that Adam made a choice. I found the book interesting and definitely thought provoking. I'm not sorry that I purchased it because it makes one ponder exactly what they take for granted day to day. Not to mention what they would do if suddenly their entire life was changed as they knew it by a tragedy that indeed left them, "Broken". So this isn't a mindess erotica novel with no real story. I didn't give this book 5 stars because it wasn't a "page turner" so to speak. It didn't keep me glued. I do recommend reading Dirty prior to this one but it's not fully neccessary.
The reader was aweful as far as male voices were concerned and I do mean aweful. They weren't the least bit appealing. But even that couldn't ruin this story. Yes, this story does include a lot of detailed sex scenes and even a menage so it fulfills it's reason for being classified, "erotic romance" but it's far more. This is a story about an emotionally damaged woman named Elle trying to cope as an adult after some very dysfunctional and tragic events occurred during her teenage years. This book takes us through the twists and turns of her life prior to, during, and after she meets a man named Dan. Together they embark on a very interesting relationship via a set of "appointments" that turn into far more. I found this book to be a testament to the human condition and the many masks everyday people wear in order to cope with the unpleasant circumstances that life can bring. This story will take the listener on a journey of many conflicted emotions reguarding sex, morality, family ties, religion, abuse, forgiveness, grief, and self acceptance. I was very skeptical initially but the more I listened the more I realized why so many people are truly moved by Megan Hart's books. I gave this title 4 stars not because of the book but because of the reader. She really did a disservice to Dan's voice. It just didn't seem to fit the character and if the book wasn't so good it could have ruined everything! The reader didn't have a lot of variation with male voices in general. For instance, a teenage boy's voice sounded like a squeaking version of Dan's and another male character's voice sounded like a hyper version of Dan's. But if you can get past all that you are indeed in for a treat. And yes, the sex scenes are pretty hot... given the reader totally made Dan sound a lot less sexy than I think the author intended! LOL! Happy listening!
I really enjoyed this title! I didn't think the reader was great but she wasn't bad either. For me, she didn't detract from the story so much that I was unable to enjoy it. Contrary to much opinion I've come across in various places I like the way she voiced Bones. It was sort of funny but not annoying. I felt the interaction between Bones and Cat was great and plausible. I could definitely imagine them together. And I liked the "feel" of the older worldly experienced man and younger less experienced but fiesty yet vunerable woman aspect quite a bit. I think the author created a great balance in that area that made sense. And even though Bones is a pretty tough dude the author created a sense of decency in him that I appreciated. And Cat cracked me up.. I was always waiting to see what whacky thing she would say or do next while trying to come into her own. I also liked that they didn't have this small town young lady have so much campy personality that it killed the idea of who and what she is. For me the violence didn't take away from the story at all..I expected it and I thought it was done well. The sex scenes... WOWSA. Pretty hot stuff and executed very well. I wasn't yawning through it...had my eyes opened wide on some parts. Cat's family..so funny. Exactly how I would expect them to be from their little town and her interaction with them was very believable. Some of the scenes with Cat and her family were so comical...LOL! I had to give this book all 5 stars because it was just a great way to start out a series. Definitely made me want to finish the entire series!
This was the first title that I have ever read/listened to by Lora Leigh. I have to say that it wasn't the experience that I was expecting. The reader didn't make the book very enjoyable because of the awful way she voiced the characters. I don't know why she made Megan's voice so odd. For a few seconds I thought Megan was a dude. Braeden was voiced in the most fake bad acting tough guy voice I've ever heard. The book itself was probably one of the most annoying, boring, pointless books I've ever come across in the genre. It was KILLING me to finish it and I only did because I paid for it. And it wasn't the sex scenes either. I know what the genre is and I have no problem with sex scenes even very explicit ones. So for me, the downer was the interaction between the two main characters period whether sexual or otherwise. I saw no realistic point for them to be together let alone be "mated". None whatsoever.Their interaction as a couple was borderline dysfunctional and I could see some people saying mentally abusive. And I don't say that because I have a problem with a very strong take charge male. In fact, that is the type of lead male character that I always prefer to read but this guy Braeden wasn't the least bit appealing in that reguard. He seemed more into the idea of possessing Megan than actually being in love with her which put a total damper on the "romance" aspect. Megan was just the most annoying woman that you would expect to get stomped on and manipulated.even with her empath abilities. I honestly feel bad that this was the first title that I ever experienced by Lora Leigh because it makes me not even want to try any of her other books for fear of being bored and annoyed out of my ever loving mind. I just can't recommend this title at all. For me it was a TOTAL waste of time, money, and effort. I tried and tried to get into it and I just couldn't get past the lunacy of it all. I say do yourself a favor if you are considering this book: ABORT MISSION!!
