Here is the novel that will be forever considered a triumph of the imagination. Set on the desert planet Arrakis, Dune is the story of the boy Paul Atreides, who would become the mysterious man known as Maud'dib. He would avenge the traitorous plot against his noble family and would bring to fruition humankind's most ancient and unattainable dream.

Where does Dune rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Dune is similar to Game of Thrones in a sense that it describes a grandiose play of politics between power mongering houses, albeit in an intergalactic setting. The book is very recommended read for the young audience who became excited about GoT. The book is mostly set in a distant desert planet and the narrative captures the life in a desert planet Arrakis well. The story of Muad'dib is an allegory to our world which gives deeper context to the story, as any profound sci-fi story should.

The second Dune installment explores new developments on the planet Arrakis, with its intricate social order and strange, threatening environment. Dune Messiah picks up the story of the man known as Muad'Dib, heir to a power unimaginable, bringing to fruition an ambition of unparalleled scale: the centuries-old scheme to create a superbeing who reigns not in the heavens but among men. But the question is: DO all paths of glory lead to the grave?

    Story

Dune Messiah fumbled on its metaphorical ambitions. The jihad is mere side note in the story of Paul's awakening. The text, consisting of lengthy metaphorical dialogues fails to build up tension necessary to keep listeners interested in the original premise: the story of planet Dune and how Paul maintains its power to rule the planet. I wish the following book, Children of Dune will be more similar to the first one, with better balanced narrative on the struggle between Houses, control of the spice production and the fate of the planet Dune.
