History made palpable.
The most poignantly memorable story in the book was of the Alex Dumas statue in Paris being paid for by Sarah Bernhardt and another individual (whose name escapes me) to honor the memory Alex Dumas. It almost mirrored the sad history of the man himself. The statue was built, but was not officially opened and was ultimately destroyed by Nazi despots during WWII.

I don't know what possessed Tom Reiss to research this book so carefully and write it, but I thank him for doing so. If I taught history, I would use this book in my class!
Alexander McCall Smith hits the mark again as usual. If you enjoy everyday storytelling, you will probably enjoy these tales.
The reader is very talented in carrying David's words through to the exciting conclusion.
While Andy Carpenter doesn't want to work, he tackles each case with gusto. He has a wonderful sense of humor which lightens the otherwise heady concept of taking on a what appears to be a hopeless case.

The performance of this book was excellent. However, the repetitive prose made the story bog down at times. Reading dated work is not something I normally do, so I'm not used to it.
This edition is so well performed. I suggest that anyone who has never read Dracula listen to this edition. You will then know how the Dracula craze began. There is so much detail missing in this book, it has leant itself to other authors to add those missing details and bring a fuller picture to life in story.
Since the narrators are professional performers and the work is directed, the proper emphasis is place on words in sentences to best make the meaning apparent, I sometimes must read a sentence a few times to get the meaning if the book is written in unfamiliar prose.
