Sometimes I take a chance on a first book that I know is a series and knowing that if I like the first, my decisions about what to buy next will be so very simple. The first in this series by this author is "Hounded" and after the first listen, I was hooked. I've just finished the fourth in the series and can't wait for the next installment. This is pure fantasy and if you like character development like I do, especially in this case, being a dog lover myself, you'll love the Druid's Russian Wolfhound. His character and their interaction is enchanting and totally lovable. In quite a few of the interactions, I found myself laughing out loud, which doesn't happen too often in fantasy novels. The narrator does a superb job on his voices and the emotional qualities that he imparts to the characters. Just all in all a fun, fun read (listen).
The author is beginning to flesh out the characters in the second book and I am thoroughly enjoying the read. This is paranormal with a twist and an honest look at Witchcraft today with a little more magic thrown in for good measure (as well as a little romance starting up). The characters have become much more endearing and I find I can't wait to get the next installment of this series.
The narrator really grows on you and I was pleased to see that she continues with the entire series so far. She does the voices just right for the story and makes the read much more enjoyable.
When Audible has a sale and it includes the first of a series that I think I might be interested in, I give it a chance; hating to pass up any book at a bargain. I have enough drama and need for reading technical literature in real life and look for entertainment in most of my reading material. I like the format and characters to entertain and interest me. This series is starting out to do just that. It's fun and entertaining and the hours flew by. I was able to multitask while listening and didn't miss the storyline while attending to other activities that didn't need any conscious thought. All in all, it's just what I look for in a novel. I would have liked a little more depth of character and thought that there were parts that could have used a little more detail in order to "paint" a better picture of where it was coming from and, since it is a series, where it may be heading, instead of just a "tease" of what's to come. But, that being said, I will be getting additional books in the series. It may not be perfect, but it is entertainment and a fun read.
As the series develops, I can't even imagine where the author is going from here. It seems to keep getting darker and darker and the story line keeps taking twists and turns that I didn't see coming. Now that I'm finished with the 6th of the series, I CANNOT wait for the next installment. The characters just keep getting more complex and interesting. Please hurry with the next story!
When I first read the description of the next story in the series, I thought that the characters were going to be all new and I'd miss the old ones a lot! But, I was surprised to find the old characters are still here, still "in character" and just as entertaining as I'd hoped. New characters were added and the narrator makes them all come alive. I don't know if I'd like the series as much if there was a different narrator. This one is very, very good!
I've listened to the previous books a couple of times each. And, I really don't do that often at all. The narrator gives the perfect voice to Chet and it makes the story very enjoyable. This isn't serious reading material, it's pure entertainment and sometimes that's exactly what I need. The more you get to know Chet and Bernie, the more you grow to love them!
If you like fantasy, a little romance and a new take on the paranormal, this is a fun series. The first book caught my attention from the start and I know I'm going to be listening to them all.
I started this series without too many expectations, but the description sounded interesting and thought I'd give it a try. It was so good I hated when it ended, even though it's a long read. And, I now have all the unabridged books in the series and am looking forward to reading the next and newest book. The narrator is the absolute best for this series. Ms. Porter makes the characters come to life and be some of the most memorable of all time. Definitely well worth a credit!
Even though the synopsis of the book's plot had me thinking it would be predictable if you are a constant reader of "whodunits" and thrillers, the offer of 3 for 2 credits had me hooked to picking a third book. This was the 3rd choice and it turned out to be the best read of the 3. Even though it was a little predictable, it was well performed and had some exciting twists that keeps you involved in the plot and the characters. Overall, it was very entertaining and that's just what I became a recorded book reader for...entertainment and the ability to do every day menial tasks while keeping my mind busy and entertained! This book will do that for you!
Easy to fall in love with these characters. Sometimes you get anxious, as with any mystery whodunit and sometimes it's just laugh out loud funny, as well as heart warming. I was so delighted with the story and the great performance by Mr. Frangione that i've purchased the next four titles. I'm happy that they are now in my library.
Usually there is a story or plot along with some bedroom activities, just to add a little more exotic interest. But, nearing the end of the first half of the book, I realized there is an abundance of bedroom gymnastics, but a total lack of interesting plot or even an interesting character. I won't be finishing this one.
The narrator tries to do a good job with her part, but it's not her fault that there is nothing but junk to read.
