I enjoyed the earlyer Artemis books, the main charicter was a hyper intelegent anti-hero. in this book however the main charicter has lost his mind and it seems the author has added this story on after the main arch is complete and decided instead of staring another one up, he would write a filler book.

say what you want about global warming, but saving the world from CO2 emissions does not make for gripping fiction.
The production and voice quality is still as good as the earlier books, however the story leaves much to be desired, and that is comming form somone who read all the previous Artemis books back to back. and enjoyed all of them

In the realm of Alera, where people bond with the furies - elementals of earth, air, fire, water, and metal - 15-year-old Tavi struggles with his lack of furycrafting. But when his homeland erupts in chaos - when rebels war with loyalists and furies clash with furies - Tavi's simple courage will turn the tides of war.

"slow start to a great series"

first off I love the dresden files books, Jim Butcher is hands down my fav current author, however this is not the desden files, you will not find yourself laughing out loud like you might while reading the self deprecating smart assed humor you your get form Harry in his other books. That being said, if you can fight thru this first offering in the series the universe and the charicters will really have grown on you by the second and third and you will be addicted to this series like i was. I remember thinking "why doesn't Jim just write the dresden files books full time (and faster) and stop with the fantasy" but by the end of the series i was wishing he would write more of this series as well. All in all Jim Butcher is a great author and although this book is pretty slow, i would recomend it in for no other reason than it lays the ground work for some great later books.
