The Goldfinch is a haunted odyssey through present-day America and a drama of enthralling force and acuity. It begins with a boy. Theo Decker, a 13-year-old New Yorker, miraculously survives an accident that kills his mother. Abandoned by his father, Theo is taken in by the family of a wealthy friend. Bewildered by his strange new home on Park Avenue, disturbed by schoolmates who don't know how to talk to him, and tormented above all by his unbearable longing for his mother, he clings to one thing that reminds him of her: a small, mysteriously captivating painting that ultimately draws Theo into the underworld of art.

Where does The Goldfinch rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I am not as good a book reviewer as I am a reader but I felt this book deserved the time. I am so glad that I stuck out the beginning. Donna goes into long descriptives which are poignant but at first felt a bit protracted, that is until I realized that the relevance was there thru the entire book. This is not a book in which to get thru but to savor.

What did you like best about this story?

I loved the characters voice brought to life thru David Pittu. I do not believe that anyone else could have had such flawless timing, accents and character differentiation.

Offred is a Handmaid in the Republic of Gilead, serving in the household of the enigmatic Commander and his bitter wife. She may go out once a day to markets whose signs are now pictures because women are not allowed to read. She must pray that the Commander makes her pregnant, for in a time of declining birthrates her value lies in her fertility, and failure means exile to the dangerously polluted Colonies. Offred can remember a time when she lived with her husband and daughter and had a job, before she lost even her own name....

What made the experience of listening to The Handmaid's Tale the most enjoyable?

Let's be honest Claire Danes is genius, so I would say her narration. The story is interesting and made me think.

    Any additional comments?

I think anyone would call this book anticlimactic but for me that was not an issue. I so enjoined listening and introspecting, it was one of those books for me. A book that I think about weeks and months after finishing. It is relevant, frightening and beautiful.

A storm struck on the night Laura Shane was born, and there was a strangeness about the weather that people would remember for years. But even more mysterious was the blond-haired stranger who appeared out of nowhere - the man who saved Laura from a fatal delivery. Years later - after another bolt of lightning - the stranger returned.

Barry says: "One of Koontz' best, entirely enjoyable."

Where does Lightning rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I genuinely enjoined the story and narrator. This was my first taste of Koontz and defiantly one of my favorites. It was gripping and exciting with great characters. I now understand why he is such a popular author, his talent for integrating humor into characters and plots is great.
If you are looking for a fast and furious book that keeps you engrossed, and on the edge on your seat while getting you emotionally evolved with the characters you will love this book.
