Allison Lopez is not your everyday Psychic Hotline operator. She's a real psychic with real abilities that seem to grow daily, thanks to her close association with an immortal friend. Now, as her abilities continue to grow, Allison meets a very strange woman who reveals a starling secret to her. Life, for Allison Lopez, is about to get even stranger... and more fantastic.

Would you try another book from J.R. Rain and/or Francesca Townes?

No, it's too much of a tween read for me.

What could J.R. Rain have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

The main character was too shallow and naive for her purpose. An "old soul" is wise beyond her years.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

She sounded like a valley girl telling a fairy tale. Her characterization of the police detective was laughable.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from The Witch and the Gentleman?

I would not have continually referred to the dead vampire boyfriend as "my boyfriend". He had a name.

    Any additional comments?

Maybe reading this book instead of listening would be better, but the main character was just too naive and shallow for her role.

A finalist for the National Book Award and the National Book Critics Circle Award, Bonnie Jo Campbell is a rising star in contemporary fiction. Hailed by Booklist as a female Huckleberry Finn, Campbell’s heroine is 16yearold Margo Crane. Complicit in her father’s death, Margo flees home for the Stark River. And as she follows the current, she learns the ways of the world from the eccentric characters she meets.

This is a good survival story of a young girl as she grows into a woman under very difficult circumstances. The mistakes she makes are understandable considering her lack of adult guidance. She's what Katnis Everdeen (Hunger Games) would be in the real world. The narrator was excellent, was never apparent as I listened, as a narrator should be.
