At the end of her best-selling memoir Eat, Pray, Love, Elizabeth Gilbert fell in love with Felipe, a Brazilian-born man of Australian citizenship who'd been living in Indonesia when they met. Resettling in America, the couple swore eternal fidelity to each other, but also swore to never, ever, under any circumstances get legally married. But providence intervened one day in the form of the United States government....

As a newly appointed junior manager within the Laundry - the clandestine organization responsible for protecting Britain against supernatural threats - Bob Howard is expected to show some initiative to help the agency battle the forces of darkness. But shining a light on things best left in the shadows is the last thing Bob wants to do - especially when those shadows hide an occult parasite spreading a deadly virus. Traders employed by a merchant bank in London are showing signs of infection.

Charles Stross is one of my favorite authors and this book as read by Gideon Emery showcases what is great about this series... wonderful satire, great wordplay, a fast paced pot and richly described characters both familiar and strange - bureaucrats and bankers, hackers and vicars, sorcerers and vampires, zomies and soul eaters, a violin that kills demons and a cat called Spooky.

Considered by the author to be his finest work yet, this is a novel of realistic detail, heartfelt emotion, and dazzling imagination that builds a world listeners won't want to leave and spins a tale they won't want to end. In a town of amazing magicks, where the real and the imagined live side by side and the Faerie of legend know the automatons of the future, Time sees all - but even he cannot escape the prophecy of James Hart's return, which can only mean the death of Shadows Fall.

Shadows Fall is one of my favorite Simon R. Green books.

I have read it about 5 times since I first brought it many years ago.

I find myself buying new copies as I keep loaning out my current copy.

What a pleasure that the audible version is just as good as the written work.

The narration is wonderful. All the characters are clearly delineated. And the pacing is wonderful.

I have a new way to enjoy this thoughtful, fanciful, evocative work.

A BBC Radio six-part adaptation of Neil Gaiman's best-selling novel, starring James McAvoy as Richard and Natalie Dormer as Door. Beneath the streets of London there is another London. A subterranean labyrinth of sewers and abandoned tube stations. A somewhere that is Neverwhere....

Leslie Morgan Steiner met the love of her life at age 22, soon after graduating from Harvard and starting her first job at Seventeen magazine in New York. She fell for his self-deprecating wit and street smarts - and especially his unabashed worship of her. They married and spent four years together. At first Leslie felt like the woman of his dreams. Then she discovered her husband had been beaten as a child, taught by his parents that intimacy and rage danced together.

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

I would ONLY if that person was interested in knowing about domestic violence and abuse. I really wanted the writer to have more insight into the why of the abuse - and how she was hooked into a co-dependant role of being the one that "understood" who was going to help her abuser "work" on his childhood.

Did Tanya Eby Sirois do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?

    Yes

Do you think Crazy Love needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

No - I think it needs a forward or annotation to do a better of job of why the author got hooked into the relationship.

    Any additional comments?

Will not purchase any other books by this author.
