Enchanted by a powerful spell, Highland laird Drustan MacKeltar slumbered for nearly five centuries hidden deep in a cave, until an unlikely savior awakened him. The enticing lass who dressed and spoke like no woman he'd ever known was from his distant future, where crumbled ruins were all that remained of his vanished world.

Okay, I was skeptical about a man narrating a romance novel. Wow, was I wrong! Phil Gigante is an incredible narrator. His voice puts you right into the story as his Highland Brogue is beautiful and sensuous! I was reminded of Sean Connery several times in this novel.

I hesitated to purchase The Hunger Games to begin with because it was classified as a young adult novel. However, my sister-in-law encouraged me to read them and I had just finished another series. "What the heck," I thought.

After the first chapter, I was hooked!

I finished all three books within a few weeks. Generally, when I read a series of books I get the feeling that authors get tired of writing about their subjects by the end. NOT the case here! All I could do at the end of Mockingjay was sit down and just say, "Wow!" Collins cared about her characters and thought the whole series all the way through to the very last word. Every word in the last few chapters mattered and wrapped everything up with a beautiful bow. Of course, that is to say nothing about the incredible creativity and full immersion into another world I could never have dreamed of.

    LOVED IT!

In the aftermath of the brutal murder of his father, a mysterious woman, Kahlan Amnell, appears in Richard Cypher's forest sanctuary seeking help...and more. His world, his very beliefs, are shattered when ancient debts come due with thundering violence.

In their darkest hour, hunted relentlessly, tormented by treachery and loss, Kahlan calls upon Richard to reach beyond his sword - to invoke within himself something more noble. Neither knows that the rules of battle have just changed...or that their time has run out.

    Overall

From what I can tell about this series, the books are amazing. I listened to about the first half hour of book 1 and just couldn't listen anymore, however. The narration was horrible! I couldn't tell when a character was talking vs. the narrator. It sounded like a newscast! I guess I'll have to buy the hard copy of book 1 and then see if one of the other narrators for other books in the series are any better - which I'm sure they are!
