The writing is unvarnished and not sentimental, even with the strong imagery the author invokes.
Dumpling- she is the true center to the story, although it isn't truly evident until near the end.
This book brought tears to my eyes on more than one occasion. The choices the characters were forced to make and then live with, were horrific. Even more so were the choices the characters never had.
I have not read the print version, but thought the narrator for this entire series was excellent!
She brought out the personalities of each character in her intonation and pacing, breathing life into their words.
The entire series continues to resonate and move me, even several days after finishing the last book. It was not always an easy listen and I often found myself frustrated by the actions of some of the characters. However, their actions were true to their experiences and motivations.
