Even in Empire City, a town where weird science is the hope for tomorrow, it's hard for a robot to make his way. It's even harder for a robot named Mack Megaton, a hulking machine designed to bring mankind to its knees. But Mack's not interested in world domination. He's just a bot trying to get by, trying to demonstrate that he isn't just an automated smashing machine, and to earn his citizenship in the process. It should be as easy as crushing a tank for Mack, but some bots just cant catch a break.

I've never listened/read a book by A. Lee Martinez, but I will surely be looking into his other releases after this listen. Marc Vietor did a glorious job with the subject matter, I mean I guess he is the go to guy when it comes to "robot crime noir".

One of the best I've listened to so far in 2011.

"I believe there is another man inside every man, a stranger...." writes Wilfred Leland James in the early pages of the riveting confession that makes up "1922", the first in this pitch-black quartet of mesmerizing tales from Stephen King. For James, that stranger is awakened when his wife, Arlette, proposes selling off the family homestead and moving to Omaha, setting in motion a gruesome train of murder and madness.

I enjoyed this book, but is it my favorite SK collection of short stories? No. It's def. worth a listen though, I enjoy Craig Wasson's narration of the first story. I say if you're a big SK fan then you have to listen, if not you're not missing THAT much...but give it a shot if you're in the mood for some darkness in your day.

Why we think it’s a great listen: Some books are meant to be read; others are meant to be heard – Water for Elephants falls into the second group, and is one of the best examples we have of how a powerful performance enhances a great story. Nonagenarian Jacob Jankowski reflects back on his wild and wondrous days with a circus. It's the Depression Era and Jacob, finding himself parentless and penniless, joins the Benzini Brothers Most Spectacular Show on Earth.

    Overall

I was only really interested in listening to this book due to the high praise of many of my co-workers(who happen to be female) and their chit chat about the book. I took a chance after listening to the brief sample recording and I will say that I enjoyed this book from the start. I thought this would be like any Nicholas Sparks book and just be predictable and sappy to the end, with maybe a few main characters dying in between. I was way off the mark, it's a very descriptive book from both perspectives utilizing 2 narrators to read the same character...his young self from the past, and his older self from the present. I was not only moved by this book, but I really felt for him throughout the story...I usually listen to thrillers/supernatural/mysteries but this one stood out like no other. It's def. worth a credit.

The cause of the devastation is a phenomenon that will come to be known as The Pulse, and the delivery method is a cell phone. Everyone's cell phone. Clay and the few desperate survivors who join him suddenly find themselves in the pitch-black night of civilization's darkest age, surrounded by chaos, carnage, and a human horde that has been reduced to its basest nature...and then begins to evolve.

    "Stephen King - Benchwarmer Book"
    Overall

This book started off very interesting, and is the closest Stephen King has ever come to writing an acutal book with zombies in the plot. However, once the book got going and "explained" the actual reasoning for everyone going insane and what not I was a little(a lot) disappointed. It seems this book was just something he churned out just to meet a deadline with a publisher, and don't get me started on the very loose ending...far better Stephen King books to listen too. If you're new to SK audiobooks start with something like "The Shining", "IT", or "Misery" because they are far better with plot and character development.
