In the India of the mid-1970s, Indira Gandhi's government has just come to power. It institutionalizes corruption and arbitrary force, most oppressive to the poorest and weakest people under its sway. Against this backdrop, in an unnamed city by the sea, four people struggle to survive. Dina, Maneck, and two tailors, the Untouchables Om and Ishvar, who are sewing in Dina's service, undergo a series of reversals.

Karen P. Smith says: "Praise for the Narrator as much as the Writer"
"What an incredible and devastating book"
    Overall

I seldom bother to write reviews. This review is here to simply echo my endorsement of this book. It's worth the time spend reading. Everything the other 5 star reviewers write is spot on. Buy this book, you will not be sorry.

  • The Art of Seduction: An Indispensible Primer on the Ultimate Form of Power

Synthesizing the work of thinkers including Freud, Diderot, Nietzsche, and Einstein, delineating the enticing strategies of characters throughout history, The Art of Seduction is a comprehensive guide to getting what we want - any way we can. Controversial but never dull, timeless and up-to-date, it's destined to be Greene's next best seller.

Robert says: "Great narration, interesting material"
"It starts well, but leaves an immature flavor"
    Overall

I enjoyed the book, for the first couple hours of reading. Then it because quite repetitious and just plain boring. The author makes some good points early on but then spends the whole rest of the book trying to build a case which cannot be convincing to even a moderately intelligent individual.

The electrifying Left Behind™ series has soared to the top of best seller lists! Listen to what life might be like for those left behind when millions vanish, fulfilling the prophecy in the Book of Revelation. Vehicles, suddenly unmanned, careen out of control. People are terror-stricken as loved ones vanish before their eyes. As devastating as the disappearances have been, the darkest days may lie ahead.

Andrew says: "Fun if you accept it for what it is..."
    "Wow"
    Overall

I've been listening to the entire series and I'm finally up to the eighth. The further I get into the series the more engaging and exciting it becomes. I'm hooked.
