A rare hybrid of vampire and werewolf, Riley Jenson and her twin brother, Rhoan, work for Melbourne's Directorate of Other Races, an organization created to police the supernatural races, and protect humans from their depredations. While Rhoan is an exalted guardian, a.k.a. assassin, Riley is merely an office worker, until her brother goes missing on one of his missions. The timing couldn't be worse.

    "Boring and boring"
    Overall

Did I say boring? And every paragraph or two we got to hear how horny werewolves are. This book should not be compared to Charlaine Harris or the Anita Blake series. Sex scenes too often too long and too boring. I think I said boring, just wanted to drag this review on the way book drags on. You can substitute boring for horny and get the gist of the book. Wish someone had said this book was too boring to be a harlequin romance and I never would have bought it. I don't like Romance books

Irene Spencer did as she felt God commanded in marrying her brother-in-law, Verlan LeBaron, becoming his second wife. When the government raided the fundamentalist, polygamous Mormon village of Short Creek, Arizona, Irene and her family fled to Verlan's brothers' Mexican ranch. They lived in squalor and desolate conditions in the Mexican desert with Verlan's six brothers, one sister, and numerous wives and children.

Paul Mullen says: "Eye Opening... Difficult Listen... Honest"
"I remember some of the families"
    Overall

Trying to figure out why she was a victim? I am not a member of any form of Mormon church, but grew up in Murray Utah and remember many of the families she speaks of in this book. Even though she had been born into polygamy her mother and family had left and actively discouraged her from following that path. It was her choice to pursue LeBaron and become his 'wife' and then she spends the rest of the book listing on why this was a bad choice. If she had married Glen I wonder if she would have written a book on that bad choice. There are polygamus wives who had little or no choice of who they married or when they married and truly suffer and do without and are treated as little more than property but it seems like LaBaron's first wives had a choice and made it. Kinda like marrying a drunk and then complaining they drink.

I like some vampire books but can definitely do without romance novels of any kind. Sigh.. unrequited and angst just isn't my cup of tea

Gave me something to listen to while I did other things.

Narrator voice not too bad, but for some reason every character in the book had adult voices except for the lead. The narrator assigned her a slightly young precocious 5 year old voice. Very annoying. Had I realized this was a romance novel I would not have purchased it. Have to check closer next time

Why we think it’s a great listen: How do you one-up a book that’s already a global literary phenomenon? Hire Simon Vance to (flawlessly) interpret the loves, lives, and murders of Sweden’s cold and secret-filled world. A spellbinding amalgam of murder mystery, family saga, love story, and financial intrigue. It's about the disappearance 40 years ago of Harriet Vanger, a young scion of one of the wealthiest families in Sweden.

Pamela Murphy says: "COULD NOT PUT IT DOWN"
"Have tried 4 times to get into this book"
    Overall

Have started this book over 4 times once on a boring road trip and couldn't get more than 2 hours into it. Boring, stilted and I cared little about any character after 2 hours. Reading other reviews regarding graphic rape and torture elements I am now glad I never got past the beginning.

In 1989 Ken Follett astonished the literary world with The Pillars of the Earth, set in 12th-century England. Readers and listeners ever since have hoped for a sequel. At last, here it is. Although the two novels may be listened to in any order, World Without End also takes place in Kingsbridge, two centuries after the townspeople finished building their exquisite Gothic cathedral. The cathedral is again at the center of a web of love and hate, greed and pride, ambition and revenge.

Laura says: "Repetitive, but still enjoyable"
"Great book to follow Pillars of the Earth"
    Overall

I listen while driving too and from work, sometimes take the long way home. This book is wonderfully well written and even though you know someone is in part 5, their danger is part 2 is vivid and real.
