It looked like another ordinary day in Los Angeles. Then night came...Evil as old as the centuries has descended upon the City of Angels - it comes as a kiss from the terrifying but seductive immortals. Slowly at first, then by the legions, the ravenous undead choke Los Angeles with bloodthirsty determination - and the hordes of monstrous victims steadily mount each night.

This is the best vampire book ever. I read the book back in the 80s when he wrote this. I loved it then and love it now. Hearing it read by Ray Porter was fantastic!!! He did a great job. I read the book twice. I know I will listen to this again. Love it

Charlie Gordon knows that he isn't very bright. At 32, he mops floors in a bakery and earns just enough to get by. Three evenings a week, he studies at a center for mentally challenged adults. But all of this is about to change for Charlie. As part of a daring experiment, doctors are going to perform surgery on Charlie's brain. They hope the operation and special medication will increase his intelligence, just as it has for the laboratory mouse, Algernon.

During his years in a neural-health facility, Pat Peoples has formulated a theory about silver linings. He believes that his life is a movie produced by God, that his mission is to become physically fit and emotionally supportive, and that if he succeeds, his happy ending will be the return of his estranged wife, Nikki. When Pat goes to live with his parents, everything seems changed: no one will talk to him about Nikki, and his new therapist seems to be recommending adultery as a form of therapy.

Now a major motion picture directed by Stephen Frears (The Queen, High Fidelity) and starring Judi Dench (Skyfall, Notes on a Scandal) and Steve Coogan (The Trip, Hamlet 2): the heartbreaking true story of an Irishwoman and the secret she kept for 50 years. When she became pregnant as a teenager in Ireland in 1952, Philomena Lee was sent to a convent to be looked after as a "fallen woman". Then the nuns took her baby from her and sold him, like thousands of others, to America for adoption. Fifty years later, Philomena decided to find him.

    Story

Good story. Told very well. Performance was well done. But I thought it would be more about the mother looking and son. This is just more about the son's life. Movie was more about the mom. The main fact of this story is to say that the child was taken from the mother against her will and the mean nuns. Nuns were mean back in the day. Real mean and the Priest too. A shame how babies were taken from mothers because of the times. Glad things are different now.

I read this book when it first came out back in the 80's. I loved this author. I loved this book. I was sorry it came to an end. I don't remember this being in audio back then. I tried to read any books Robert McCammon wrote. I'm so glad to find his books on audio. When I first signed up for Audible there was nothing by him. I have not listened to this yet but I know I will not be disappointed. The Wolf's Hour and They Thirst are also great!!!!

I ordered this to hear it again. I had heard this on tape back in the 90's and have thought about it all these years. I enjoyed it then and I know I will enjoy it now. It has a haunting ending. At least I think so. Surprised it never was made into a movie. I think this is worth a credit for anyone who is unsure.
