  • Ready for Anything: 52 Productivity Principles for Work and Life

    • ABRIDGED (3 hrs and 8 mins)
    • By David Allen
    • Narrated By David Allen

Discover David Allen's powerful productivity principles and vastly increase your ability to work better, not harder - every day. He asks listeners what's holding them back and shows how all of us can be "ready for anything" - with a clear mind, a clear deck, and clear intentions. This is the perfect audiobook for anyone wanting to work and live at his or her very best.

    Jeff says: "Good follow-up to"
    "Many Ideas, Little Overlap"

This book provides some decent reminders of the "Getting Things Done" concepts, which I earnestly like. However, the presentation on this audio edition is not easy to follow. I felt like I was playing 52 card pickup where the author's ideas were like a bunch of cards scattered on the flour (i.e., some of the ideas were interesting, many were not, but what was lacking was any real sense of flow or continuity). Further, David Allen's voice and presentation leave something to be desired. I think this program could have benefited from a professional actor/speakers delivery.

  • The Power of Thought: Changquing's Seeing Form, Seeing Sound

    • ORIGINAL (35 mins)
    • By John Daido Loori Roshi

All societies have laws to prevent physical and verbal violence, but what about the violence we create with our thoughts? Daido Roshi states that our minds are incredibly powerful, and they create a force that shapes the reality around us. We can only bring peace and healing to ourselves and others if we first have peace in our minds. But we can't quiet the mind until we see how much time we spend talking to ourselves, and until we let go of our almost constant inner chatter.

    Marty says: "Brilliant"

This talk is brilliant. Succinct and spoken from a core of wisdom that is well honed and deeply enlightening. I've listened to this talk three times in the last week and have felt like I was awakened anew each time. I look forward to hearing more from this master teacher.

  • Fear and Other Uninvited Guests: Tackling the Anxiety, Fear, and Shame That Keeps Us from Optimal Living

    • ABRIDGED (3 hrs and 46 mins)
    • By Harriet Lerner, Ph.D
    • Narrated By Harriet Lerner

Unhappiness, says best-selling author Harriet Lerner, is fueled by three key emotions: anxiety, fear, and shame. They are the uninvited guests in our lives. When tragedy or hardship hit, they may become our constant companions.

Brenda says: "Very informative and helpful"
    "very insightful and realistic"

This book is excellent in many respects but first a comment about the author's delivery, which other reviewers have made into the issue about this book. It's true. The delivery takes some getting used to. Also, the book starts out a bit slow. It takes time to get to the parts that are actually useful. But, it does provides some very deep insights, in relatively simple terms and what I prize most about her account is that she's realistic and also self-deprecating. If you are looking for ways to understand anxiety and fear and other mind states that can be quite debilitating, this is an excellent resource and the author's perspective provides a sense of understanding that in and of itself can be healing. Excellent book, warts and all.
