I had to stop listening. The narator's high thin voice sounded very silly when reading the part of a war hardened warrior. Not the story or characterisation I expected after enjoying the first book of the series.
This is an engaging story filled with an interesting variety of characters.
The clever narrator makes each voice distinctive and original, with her talented display of nuance, timing and metre.
This is an audiobook to take you away from your own world and spirit you into the intrigues of another.
This book has a tissue thin plot line. The main female character has all the emotional range of a three year old. If your idea of romance is shallow manipularive behaviour, this is the book for you. Don't waste your time and money.
I enjoy Candace Bushnell as an author and was looking forward to this book.
I was unable to get past the first 15 minutes, after which I found the high pitched, silly voice of the narator unbearable. I have enjoyed Audible's top narators such as Humphrey Bower and Deidre Rubenstein. The timbre and variation in their voices make listening a joy.
I was so impressed with Humphrey Bower's naration. His ability to portray many nationalities with accurate accents really added to my enjoyment of this book. This story of Bryce Courtenay's is so entertaining, I really appreciate the research that assists the author weaving interesting historical,
geographical, and sociological facts into a great story.
