  • The Myths of Nutrition and Fitness

We all want to live long, healthy, and happy lives. But the path to achieve this-fitness and nutrition-is fraught with popular yet dangerously misleading myths about personal wellness. How do you separate the fact from the fiction? How can you recognize when you're doing your body more harm than good? Scientific knowledge has greatly expanded our understanding of how the human body works, laying many previously held ideas about fitness and nutrition to rest.

This came to my mind while listening to the first hour of the audiobook:
    - listen to your body so you can develop a sense of what seems to help or hinder your bodies performance.
    - drink slowly/small amounts at a time when you are thirsty (you might actually need less than you think)
    - eat slowly/small amounts at a time when you are hungry (you might actually need less than you think)
    - don’t overdue it with any exercise (it is not normal/good to collapse after any exercise …)
    - avoid extremes / avoid alcohol / avoid drinking from mountain streams / bottled water is nonsense -> get a good filter or filtered water / some coffee might be better for you than you think
    - have your body supplied with just the right amount of water/minerals/energy well prior of beginning exercising
    - learn to think ahead / being prepared is a good thing
    - IMHO some of the information regarding food seems to be outdated -> read current books like Grain Brain - Wheat Belly - GAPS - Eating on the wild side -
to learn about and how to identify food that should be good for you
    - IMHO make fat “your friend” not “your enemy” (again reading good current books about fat is required)

When Colton Burpo made it through an emergency appendectomy, his family was overjoyed at his miraculous survival. What they weren’t expecting, though, was the story that emerged in the months that followed—a story as beautiful as it was extraordinary, detailing their little boy’s trip to heaven and back.

Listening to the audio book it sounded to me that the son and the dad and mom must have a very strong relationship. It seems to me that the boy had an 'out of body' experience during surgery. Something that has been described quite often in one form or another. My interpretation is that during this 'out of body' experience the boy 'connected' to and 'experienced' a lot of 'information' the father and mother have strong believes about and/or feel strongly about. I listened closely and unless I missed something, most of what the boy told his parents has been something the parents (and to a point probably the prayer group) had an idea about already. The prayers of such a large group of supporters at the time of the surgery might also have helped and maybe to a point influenced the flow of information. It should not come as a surprise that the author/dad/pastor interprets what he has heard (back) from his son within the framework of the Christian faith. But I think to get an understanding of the phenomenon doesn't necessarily require one to have the Christian faith. It should be quite easy to 'translate' the core of the description of the experience using more universal shamanic terms. I can understand why this book is probably very much welcomed by a Christian reader. Other readers still can enjoy the book but probably for different reasons, if they don't get too anoyed by the quite simple language, the numerous Bible references and the Christian concept of Satan/Devil, Hell, and Armageddon and who loves whom more. I have to confess :-) that it made me smile to hear that Jesus has a horse, even when it is just a 'rainbow horse'.

There exists an accompanying pdf which the narrator referes to. Unfortunately Audible does NOT provide the pdf file which greatly reduces the usability of this audiobook.
