The revoltingly intriguing Ignatius J. Reilly, a self-proclaimed genius at age 30, intends to reform the entire 20th century - leaving him no time for a 9 to 5 job. When Mrs. Reilly forces her reluctant son into the working world of New Orleans, it brings unexpected and hilarious results.

I have read this book, so I could follow an abridged version. I think it would be confusing if I'd never read the book. Arte Johnson's narration was perfect! He was so funny. I wish he had narrated an unabridged version. But I don't regret using a credit for this. I really enjoyed it.

The voices in this dramatization are perfect. Timothy West is a fantastic Rumpole. Prunella Scales is perfect as Hilda Rumpole - all the voices are top notch. It's a great way to listen to Rumpole. I didn't want it to end!

When Catherine Morland, a country clergyman's daughter, is invited to spend a season in Bath with the fashionable high society, little does she imagine the delights and perils that await her. Captivated and disconcerted by what she finds, and introduced to the joys of "Gothic novels" by her new friend Isabella, Catherine longs for mystery and romance. When she is invited to stay with the beguiling Henry Tilney and his family at Northanger Abbey, she expects mystery and intrigue at every turn. However, the truth turns out to be even stranger than fiction.

This is a minor novel by Jane Austen. It's short in length but has the same wit as her other books. I found it delightful to listen to. The narrator, Juliet Stevenson, was perfect in her rendition of the character's voices, including the male voices.

Edgar Allan Poe is an American boy in England, a child standing on the edge of mysteries. In 1819, two Americans arrive in London. Soon afterward a bank collapses. A man is found horribly mutilated on a building site and an heiress flirts with her inferiors. All the while, Poe's young schoolmaster struggles to understand what is happening before he and his loved ones are destroyed. But the truth has its origins in the New World and the Old, in a bitter episode of corruption during the War of 1812.

I love historical mysteries and was ready to enjoy this. The narrator is fantastic, he makes you forget there is only one person narrating. That's why I give this two stars. The writing is literate. The problem is the plot! It's boring, meandering, pointless, and I was wishing it would end already. I have no idea why the boy Edgar Allan Poe is a character: he has zero relevance to the plot. It was like a gimmick to get people to read the book. I think The Italian Secretary by Caleb Carr is a much better listen.

I didn't notice any problem with Davidson's voice in listening to this. I enjoyed it as much as the other books he's narrated.

This is a delightful collection of Rumpole stories. Tony Britton is a perfect narrator for this. He has a gently sardonic attitude and a rich voice. If you like Rumpole, this is a must-listen.
