In Washington, a newly elected young president faces a test that will focus the national spotlight on abortion, parental consent, backroom politics, and the battle over one woman's nomination as chief justice of the Supreme Court. It's high-stakes drama as only Richard North Patterson can present it! Browse more Patterson.

I love the suspense of these books and I found myself having a hard time to turn this off. I can see how some people with right leaning politis might find the book a bit offensive but to me it is real and maybe an opportunity for to take a long hard look at the other side of the argument.

Kyle McAvoy grew up in his father's small-town law office in York, Pennsylvania. He excelled in college, was elected editor-in-chief of The Yale Law Journal, and his future has limitless potential. But Kyle has a secret, a dark one, an episode from college that he has tried to forget. The secret, though, falls into the hands of the wrong people, and Kyle is forced to take a job he doesn't want, even if it's a job most law students can only dream about....

The climb was definetly not worth the view for this dud of a book. It ended completely unresolved which would have been the interesting part of of the book to me. The ending was completely unsatifactory and feels a bit as Mr Grisham simply ran out of speed. I would skip this one.

Set in the era of the Nixon and Reagan presidencies, this novel examines the American conscience while inviting us into the glittering world of the East Coast legal community. Stephen L. Carter's book follows black Ivy League law professor Talcott Garland as he investigates the death of his father, Judge Oliver Garland, the eponymous "Emperor."

    Overall

A decent storyline and plausible characters but way to long and repetitive. This book could easily have been condensed in half without reducing the value. I found myself not really listening especially the 2 middle parts and in hindsight it might have been better to get the abridged version.
