Commander Dalgliesh of Scotland Yard has just published a new book of poems, and has taken a brief respite from publicity on remote Larksoken headland on the Norfolk coast. But he cannot so easily escape murder. A psychopathic strangler of young women is at large in Norfolk, and getting nearer to Larksoken with every killing. When murder reaches the headland one moonlit night, Dalgliesh finds himself involved in a particularly horrible crime, and in the tangled emotions and motives of the suspects.

    "Poor Audio and Thin Plot"
    Overall

Wish I had read the reviews before making the purchase. This is the second PD James that I purchased that had terrible audio quality--had to adjust volume by chapters and the speed transition from chapter to chapter was very poor. The Story itself is very difficult to follow, so between the audio and the story, I got a little more than half way through before quitting.

The Peverell Press, a Thameside publishing house, is ripe for change. The Chairman has just died, and his French partner retired, leaving the latter's ruthless son, Gerard Etienne, as Chairman and Managing Director. Etienne has made many enemies including his discarded mistress and a rejected author; and he has even threatened members of the Peverell staff. When he is found dead on the premises there is no shortage of suspects.

the story is wonderful and a great PD James story. HOWEVER, I wish I read the review before purchasing. There is a HUGE cut and paste error. A new character is interviewed and brought into the story in a way that is clear that a chapter or two is missing! I had to listen to it 3 times to determine my ipod had not skipped and it wasn't a mechanical error. I am not sure if this is a Audible issue or the publisher--but there is a significant editing issue; it take some time to realize that the story changed and the reader is left to wonder what other parts of the story was edited out.
