So far, I haven't found a Bryce Courtenay book that I didn't like. This is no exception. The reader is awesome. I am now headed for the third book in the trilogy.
This book started out a bit slow for me, but since I enjoyed the author's other book, The Poisonwood Bible, I stuck it out. I'm glad I did. Once the story got rolling, it was a great listen. Not riveting, like a who-done-it, but thoughtful, well written, well read, and ecologically and environmentally thought provoking.
This is my first Pratchett book and I have to disagree with some other reviewers. I have never read any of the Discworld books, but did not have any trouble following this book. I loved the dry humor, the sarcastic placement of characters, and the overall wit. I think I'll have to read some of those Discworld books now.
