In Baku, Azerbaijan, CIA operations officer Daria Buckingham is arrested for a heinous crime. Her former boss, retired CIA station chief Mark Sava, is sure she’s innocent and tries to help her out - landing him in the middle of the new Great Game, an espionage war over oil that has China, Iran, and the United States clawing at each other’s throats. Back in Washington, DC, Colonel Henry Amato, assistant to the US national security advisor, is keeping a close watch on the situation.

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

The story was okay...but the narration was awful. Flat, bland. I've heard children read with more feeling.

Has The Colonel's Mistake turned you off from other books in this genre?

No, I usually love this type of book. This one was a bit slow and all over the place...and the narration was distracting. I know, I'm repeating myself.

Would you be willing to try another one of Richard Allen’s performances?

    NO!

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from The Colonel's Mistake?

Some of the scenes where they were hiding in the camps...didn't really go anywhere.

    Any additional comments?

Good subject...very current for the times...just too choppy and not presented very well with the narration.

In 1915, Sherlock Holmes is retired and quietly engaged in the study of honeybees when a young woman literally stumbles into him on the Sussex Downs. Fifteen years old, gawky, egotistical, and recently orphaned, the young Mary Russell displays an intellect to impress even Sherlock Holmes - and match him wit for wit. Under his reluctant tutelage, this very modern 20th-century woman proves a deft protégée and a fitting partner for the Victorian detective.

At the end when the relationships begins to take a new turn
