Patty and Walter Berglund were the new pioneers of old St. Paul - the gentrifiers, the hands-on parents, the Whole Foods generation. Patty was the ideal sort of neighbor, who could tell you where to recycle your batteries and how to get the local cops to do their job. She was an enviably perfect mother and the wife of Walter's dreams. Together with Walter - environmental lawyer, commuter cyclist, total family man - she was doing her small part to build a better world.

David LeDoux sounded like Shaggy from Scooby Doo. The story had some good parts but overall I was disgusted and amazed at how unneccesary most of the book was. Jonathan Franzen may have a head full of interesting facts but could use some help in deciding what's important in a story and what could be left out. His strong need to provide a shock factor in every character made most of them unlikable and very unrealistic. The only reason I finished the book was to discuss it at my own book club..Oprah, I cannot believe you picked this one?

Why we think it’s a great listen: If you’ve ever loved a dog - or even patted a dog - this book, told from the perspective of man’s best friend, will tug at your heartstrings...and won’t let go until long after Welch performs the last word. Enzo knows he is different from other dogs: a philosopher with a nearly human soul (and an obsession with opposable thumbs), he has educated himself by watching television extensively and by listening very closely to the words of his master.

Lora says: "Enzo (because he's so wize) for president."

Even though I'm not a big racecar fan I do love dogs and this was a great story that was very well written about both. I found myself underlining quotes and taping them on my mirror for general inspiration and motivation just to get through my day. Loved the narrator and would recommend the book to anyone.

When their last outgoing flight is cancelled, Ben finds a charter plane that can take him around the storm and drop him in Denver to catch a connection. And when the pilot says the single-engine prop plane can fit one more, if barely, Ben offers the seat to Ashley, knowing that she needs to get home just as urgently. And then the unthinkable happens. The pilot has a heart attack, and the plane crashes into one of the largest stretches of harsh and remote land in the United States.

I enjoyed every minute of this listen. Hats off to George Newbern- I never tired of your voice. The story was such an inspiration to all who have love and strength in our lives. Makes you realize that love and the ability to love never dies. Its a simple read with a beautiful surprise ending.
