This was one of the best in the Joanna Brady series.......which is my very favorite JA Jance series. There was just one thing that I found hard to accept.........that any 9 1/2 months pregnant (her words!) woman, sheriff or not, would be taking part in shootouts and other obviously extremely dangerous activities. Surely no one person is that indispensable or that invincible. Except for that, I found this to be a great book.......a total page-turner.

Andy Carpenter isn't sure what to think when he gets a mysterious phone call from a good friend, policeman Pete Stanton, asking him to drop everything, drive to an unfamiliar address, and bring his girlfriend, Laurie Collins. He certainly isn't expecting to show up at a crime scene. But that's exactly where he arrives - at the house where Pete has just discovered the body of ex-convict Danny Balfour. Upstairs are Danny's now orphaned four-year-old son and basset hound. And that, Andy discovers, is why he and Laurie were called to the scene - Pete wants them to take care of the boy and the dog so they won't get thrown into the "system". This is already asking a lot, but soon Pete needs another big favor from Andy. Pete himself has come under suspicion for Danny's murder, and he needs defense attorney Andy to represent him - and to find out what really happened in Danny's house that day!

Best of the best! The Andy Carpenter series is one of my absolute favorites and the mystery combined with a super sense of humor makes reading these books pure pleasure. Can't imagine anyone but Grover Gardner bringing this super series to life.

The cloistered grounds of the convent have traditionally represented a place of faith and peace. Now, that peace is shattered as two nuns are found, one dead, one mortally wounded. The killings appear to be without motive, without an obvious suspect, and are further complicated by the murder and mutilation of a third woman. Together, medical examiner Maura Isles and intense, moody homicide detective Jane Rizzoli uncover an ancient horror that connects these terrible slaughters.

When novelist Owen Quine goes missing, his wife calls in private detective Cormoran Strike. At first, Mrs. Quine just thinks her husband has gone off by himself for a few days - as he has done before - and she wants Strike to find him and bring him home. But as Strike investigates, it becomes clear that there is more to Quine's disappearance than his wife realizes. The novelist has just completed a manuscript featuring poisonous pen-portraits of almost everyone he knows.

I did not like this book! I did not read the Harry Potter books because they were not something I would enjoy. When the author changed genres (and names) I decided to give her a try. I will never buy another one of her books. The characters were totally unlikeable and confusing. I made it as far as the last hour and gave up without ever finding out who committed the crime.......and I couldn't care less! As far as I am concerned, it is a boring, overly long book with no redeeming qualities.

Before the movie, this is the novel that gave life to Hawkeye Pierce, Trapper John, Hot Lips Houlihan, Frank Burns, Radar O'Reilly, and the rest of the gang that made the 4077th MASH like no other place in Korea or on earth. The doctors who worked in the Mobile Army Surgical Hospitals (MASH) during the Korean War were well trained but, like most soldiers sent to fight a war, too young for the job. In the words of the author, "a few flipped their lids, but most of them just raised hell, in a variety of ways and degrees."

This book was OK. Not nearly as funny as the TV series. I probably would have given it four stars if I hadn't been put off by the very poor narration. He just didn't make it fun. Dull, monotone and entirely too much "said Jack", "said Mary".

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and read it in a very short time. I was all ready to give it five stars until I got to the last chapter. Even though they say it is based on a true story, I found the premise really difficult to accept. It might have been a little easier if the author had developed more background for the ending and hadn't finished the book so abruptly.

All in all, I would definitely recommend this book.

Catherine has been enjoying the single life for long enough to know a good catch when she sees one. Gorgeous, charismatic, spontaneous – Lee seems almost too perfect to be true. And her friends clearly agree, as each in turn falls under his spell. But there is a darker side to Lee. His erratic, controlling and sometimes frightening behaviour means that Catherine is increasingly isolated. Driven into the darkest corner of her world, and trusting no one, she plans a meticulous escape.

Took me a little while to get into this book but enjoyed it after I did. Hard to follow until you pick up on the swing between the two time frames. The reader's accent put me off at first because it was different from the British accents I am used to hearing. Does deserve the four stars!

And deep inside, he doesn’t think of himself as a hero, but a healer. However, in an ironic turn of events, as Mike operates on a wounded soldier in a war-torn country, Chloe dies at home in the suburbs, in an apparently freak household accident. Devastated, he returns home to bury her, only to discover that the life he left behind has fallen apart.

I was very disappointed in this book. First half was OK. Ending was terrible.........unbelievable characters and actions. Narrator was OK for some parts but definitely not OK for others. French accent didn't bother me as much as the Philadelphia accent, which was demeaning. I'm from Philadelphia and I don't speak that way.

Several years ago I read The Accident........and really liked it. A few months ago I reread it and liked it so much that I began to read all of the author's books. I thoroughly enjoyed every one of them until I got to this one. It was slower than the others but I could live with that. But the ending was just totally beyond belief. In most of his books the final solution is at least reasonable..........this one not so!
