  • The Second World War: The Grand Alliance

    • UNABRIDGED (9 hrs and 54 mins)
    • By Winston Churchill
    • Narrated By Christian Rodska

This volume of Churchill's history of the Second World War recounts the events of 1941 surrounding America's entry into the War, Hitler's march on Russia, and the alliance between Britain and America.

John M says: "Fascinating and Insightful"
"Wish the 4th installment was available."

I was ready to go to the end of Mr. Churchill's account of WWII but it is not there yet. Please hurry!

  • Twilight: The Twilight Saga, Book 1

    • UNABRIDGED (12 hrs and 55 mins)

About three things I was certain. First, Edward was a vampire. Second, there was a part of him, and I didn't know how dominant that part might be, that thirsted for my blood. And third, I was unconditionally and irrevocably in love with him.

    Mitch says: "My Not-So-Guilty Pleasure"
    "This is a child's book."

In my case I didn't like it because I kept yelling at Bella that this whole situation was wrong. For all of you who love this story I understand why, but there are not any guys that are over 100 years old that you would have the desire to fall in love with that hard.

  • Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln

    • ABRIDGED (9 hrs and 29 mins)
    • By Doris Kearns Goodwin
    • Narrated By Doris Kearns Goodwin, Richard Thomas

We view the long, horrifying struggle from the vantage of the White House as Lincoln copes with incompetent generals, hostile congressmen, and his raucous cabinet. He overcomes these obstacles by winning the respect of his former competitors, and in the case of Seward, finds a loyal and crucial friend to see him through. This brilliant multiple biography is centered on Lincoln's mastery of men and how it shaped the most significant presidency in the nation's history.

Anders says: "wait for the unabridged version"
    "Nothing ever changes."

The arguing in the Cabinet in Lincoln times seems awful similar as in our time. This gives you some glimpse into what is happening today and surprised me how contentious cabinets probably have always been.

  • Brisingr: The Inheritance Cycle, Book 3

    • UNABRIDGED (29 hrs and 39 mins)
    • By Christopher Paolini
    • Narrated By Gerard Doyle

Oaths sworn . . . loyalties tested . . . forces collide. Following the colossal battle against the Empire's warriors on the Burning Plains, Eragon and his dragon, Saphira, have narrowly escaped with their lives. Still there is more at hand for the Rider and his dragon, as Eragon finds himself bound by a tangle of promises he may not be able to keep.

A User says: "Good but not complete."
"After Elder, I was surprised how good this one is."

I had figured out all the revolutions in Elder about half way through the book so I wasn't expecting much from Brisingr. I was pleasantly surprised that this book was so good and am on pins and needles for the conclusion in the next book. Great listen or read!

  • Pardonable Lies: A Maisie Dobbs Novel

    • UNABRIDGED (10 hrs and 26 mins)
    • By Jacqueline Winspear
    • Narrated By Orlaugh Cassidy
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

In the third novel of this best-selling series, London investigator Maisie Dobbs faces grave danger as she returns to the site of her most painful WWI memories to resolve the mystery of a pilot's death.

mary says: "please find someone else to narrate."
"Boy I love a good mystery, this is one!"

Loved the 4 different mysteries running through this listen. You always think about how the world was changed by WWII, but this makes you think about how WWI changed things also, and how bad it will be in WWII.

  • FLAK

    • UNABRIDGED (8 hrs and 48 mins)
    • By Michael Veitch
    • Narrated By Bolinda Publishing

A collection of vivid, unforgettable stories from RAAF veterans about their experiences of combat in World War II. It is also an account of the strange, sometimes obsessive journey of the author himself, as he explores a passion held since childhood. From bomber pilots to fighter aces, from rear gunners to bomb aimers, from stories of death and fear to tales of humor and comradeship, Michael has helped unearth the extraordinary stories of ordinary men living and fighting in extraordinary times.

    Marcia Y. says: "Wow!"

As an American I just didn't realize how much the Australian's did. Thank you for opening my eyes! Really enjoyed this one and his other book that Audible has. Listened to both at least twice. I hadn't realized that the German pilots never got a break until I listened to this but it made sense after I heard it in their own words. Thanks for of the eye opening experience!

  • Days of Infamy

    • UNABRIDGED (11 hrs and 40 mins)
    • By Newt Gingrich, William R. Forstchen
    • Narrated By William Dufris

Pearl Harbor is in utter chaos after the unexpected third strike by Imperial Japanese Naval Air Forces, ordered into the attack by Admiral Yamamoto. A victory has been achieved, but is it total victory? Yamamoto is horrified to discover that the Foreign Ministry office of his government has utterly failed in their promise to insure that a proper declaration of war be delivered to America prior to the opening of hostilities.

    Kenneth says: "Wonderful"
    "What a great series!"

Can't wait for the next book. Scary how one decision could have changed the strategy for the attack on Pearl Harbor and made it much worse. Can't wait to see how this series will end. Hopefully with us winning, or will our side make the wrong decision at a crucial time.

  • Dead Center

    • UNABRIDGED (7 hrs and 24 mins)
    • By David Rosenfelt
    • Narrated By Grover Gardner
    • Whispersync for Voice-ready

Carpenter, the Paterson, N.J., lawyer whose wealth allows him to work as seldom as he chooses, is recovering from the loss of the love of his life, Laurie Collins, who has moved home to Findlay, Wis., to become the acting chief of police. When Laurie calls Andy for help after arresting 21-year-old Jeremy Davidson for murders that she thinks he didn't commit, Andy can't resist heading off to Findlay with his faithful dog, Tara.

    J. says: "What a Hoot!"

I love mysteries that put a little personal life in so the characters aren't so stiff, Tara the dog, and that he treats her better then most people he knows was great. His ying/yang on his love life. The mystery wasn't bad also.

  • Black: Book One, The Birth of Evil

    • UNABRIDGED (12 hrs and 47 mins)
    • By Ted Dekker
    • Narrated By Rob Lamont

Fleeing assailants through alleyways in Denver late one night, Thomas Hunter narrowly escapes to the roof of an industrial building. Then a silent bullet from the night clips his head and his world goes black. When he awakes, he finds himself in an entirely different reality, a green forest that seems more real than where he was. Every time he tries to sleep, he wakes up in the other world, and soon he truly no longer knows which reality is real.

Curtis says: "Should be Section One, not Book One"
    "Already downloaded Red."

Enjoyed this listen. Starts off really strange at first but it captures you. Have already started listening to the next book Red.

  • The Time Traveler's Wife

    • UNABRIDGED (17 hrs and 49 mins)
    • By Audrey Niffenegger
    • Narrated By William Hope, Laurel Lefkow

This extraordinary, magical novel is the story of Clare, a beautiful art student, and Henry, a librarian, who have known each other since Clare was six and Henry was 36, and were married when Clare was 22 and Henry 30. Impossible but true, because Henry has Chrono-Displacement Disorder: periodically his genetic clock resets and he finds himself misplaced in time, pulled to moments of emotional gravity in his past, present, and future.

Lucy says: "Worth trying to sort it out"
"I did not like this title."

The idea is great, but after using the same trick throughout the whole book you just get tired of the comings and goings. It would be nice if it had a beginning, middle and end. The worst thing I can say about a book is that I didn't care of I finished, this one I didn't care. It was very depressing.
