In this first novel, we are introduced to suave, handsome Tom Ripley: a young striver, newly arrived in the heady world of Manhattan in the 1950s. A product of a broken home, branded a "sissy" by his dismissive Aunt Dottie, Ripley becomes enamored of the moneyed world of his new friend, Dickie Greenleaf. This fondness turns obsessive when Ripley is sent to Italy to bring back his libertine pal, but he grows enraged by Dickie's ambivalent feelings for Marge, a charming American dilettante.

What made the experience of listening to The Talented Mr. Ripley the most enjoyable?

I saw the movie several years ago and can't remember the ending. I am assuming it is similar to the book. Sometimes when you see a movie before reading the book, it can be disappointing because the movie was altered too much or it is too close there isn't additional background story to be gleaned from reading the book. The book is right there in between. I am looking forward to reading the others in the series to see what dastardly deeds Mr Ripley is up to next.

What about Kevin Kenerly’s performance did you like?

I thought Kevin Kenerly's performance was kind of eerie. The somewhat soft-spoken, even tone seemed to fit the dysfunction and mindful calculations of Tom Ripley to not let emotions trip him up.

    Any additional comments?

Even though the book was written about 60 years ago, it does not feel dated.

Orphaned while onboard ship from Ireland, seven-year-old Lavinia arrives on the steps of a tobacco plantation where she is to live and work with the slaves of the kitchen house. Under the care of Belle, the master's illegitimate daughter, Lavinia becomes deeply bonded to her adopted family, though she is set apart from them by her white skin. Eventually, Lavinia is accepted into the world of the big house, where the master is absent and the mistress battles opium addiction.

What did you love best about The Kitchen House?

I have a hard time getting into a lot of popular fiction and finish only about half that I start. After this one started, I didnt want to stop listening to it. I wasnt able to guess what was coming and as the story unfolded, I wasnt disappointed.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Kitchen House?

When Mama confronted Marshall at the end.

Could you survive on your own, in the wild, with everyone out to make sure you don't live to see the morning? In the ruins of a place once known as North America lies the nation of Panem, a shining Capitol surrounded by 12 outlying districts. The Capitol is harsh and cruel and keeps the districts in line by forcing them all to send one boy and one girl between the ages of 12 and 18 to participate in the annual Hunger Games, a fight to the death on live TV.

Would you listen to The Hunger Games again? Why?

Probably, although I'm eager to start reading the second in the series as soon as possible! It is a great story and kept my attention from the beginning even though I'm in my 40s. It's a little embarrassing enjoying juvenile literature so much! In addition to being a great story, there werent bad language or sex scenes. Not that I'm opposed to them, but I rarely use earphones as I listen when I'm doing chores or driving and it is nice not having to scramble to find the pause button around my small children.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Peta was my favorite character. I liked his understated love for Katness and courage to protect her.

What about Carolyn McCormick’s performance did you like?

She had good tempo and a pleasant tone. Just wished she could do a better job with the other characters.

Winner of the Pulitzer Prize for Literature, Margaret Mitchell's great novel of the South is one of the most popular books ever written. Within six months of its publication in 1936, Gone With the Wind had sold a million copies. To date, it has been translated into 25 languages, and more than 28 million copies have been sold. Here are the characters that have become symbols of passion and desire....

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would definitely recommend Gone With The Wind. It is an amzing book. I've seen the movie more times than I can count and read the book a long time ago, yet it still keeps my attention. I'm 30 hours in and I rarely find my thoughts drifting away in distraction. I thought the 49 hours would last me quite a while. Not so. Even though I know the story so well frrom the moive, I am anxious to get back to listening.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Gone with the Wind?

Just about any time Scarlett is stymied by Rhett.

Have you listened to any of Linda Stephens’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

This is my first listen with Linda Stephens but she does a great job. Truly.

If you could take any character from Gone with the Wind out to dinner, who would it be and why?

Rhett. He's unconventional and brash, yet very practical. A Rebel with his own cause, yet respectful where respect is due.

Set in the Parisian underworld and plotted like a detective story, Les Miserables follows Jean Valjean, originally an honest peasant, who has been imprisoned for 19 years for stealing a loaf of bread to feed his sister's starving family. A hardened criminal upon his release, he eventually reforms, becoming a successful industrialist and town mayor. Despite this, he is haunted by an impulsive former crime and is pursued relentlessly by the police inspector Javert.

Amazon Customer says: "I love this book - one of the best of all time"
    "Worth the time"
    Overall

I adore the narrator, David Case/Frederick Davidson (I only recently learned they are the same person). I can't believe anyone would fault him for his singing voice. I doubt someone with a better singing voice could hold one's attention and use inflection better than he does. His ability to switch between characters and maintain their personas is unsurpassed in my opinion.
Several years ago, I listened to the unabridged version that I checked out from my public library. Wishing to revisit it, I recently purchased it on CD, not realizing it was the abridged version. I am now downloading this version because there is a lot that has been skipped. Yes, it is long but I get a lot of laundry folded, dishes washed and other mindless tasks completed while immersed in this book and the characters!

He's Just Not That Into You, based on the popular episode of Sex and the City, educates otherwise smart women on how to tell when a guy just doesn't like them enough, so they can stop wasting time making excuses for a dead-end relationship.

Jenny says: "A good basic message."
    "So many wasted years.."
    Overall

If only I heard this so many years before. The time I could have saved if I had known those men, who thought I was a super person, just werent that into me. Not to mention those who "weren't interested in a relationship" only to break up with me and get married within the year to someone else. I finally found a guy who is totally in to me and this book helped me to see it for what it is and to rethink my self-doubting. But all that aside, this audiobook is hilarious and very entertaining.
