New York Times best-selling author Laurie R. King has won sweeping critical acclaim and an impressive collection of awards for her writing. Although other writers have tried, no one has matched King's ability to capture the allure of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's legendary sleuth, Sherlock Holmes.

this was an entertaining listen!! well crafted, imaginative, enjoyable. Images conjured from a turn of the phrase, the in-depth detailed description lends itself to listening. excellent performance, well written, great imagination. I have several in the series and I will say this is one of the best, right up there with Justice Hall.

slow story line, slow reading, slow developing the story line. just hated the section on Clara's mother - really? just not as exciting as the other books by far. was a dialed in story, dialed in performance. will give serious thought before purchasing the next one, maybe borrow from the local library instead. oh and let me add boringly slow.

As 35th in line for the throne, Lady Georgiana Rannoch may not be the most sophisticated young woman, but she knows her table manners. It's forks on the left, knives on the right - not in His Majesty's back….

Enjoy the series, light frothy entertainment wrapped around a mystery. Self depricating 34th in line to the throne....what a heroine!!! The books are great fun. The author writes such a good story that I have now purchase all in the series and am looking into her other books. The miles just fly by when listening. The narrator has such a complete and total lock on the character creating just the right nuances to make the author's story line flow.

what an imagination!! great entertainment value. Can not wait for the next of the series. Sorry it is a series and yet glad it is a series. what thought and creativity. a good mind.

the author takes you to her imagined world, creates ethical situations, throws in love, conflicts, and in general makes it hard to let go when it is over. the narrator has just the right intonation to make the story just flow; enjoyed her lilt. I enjoyed her enough that I checked for other books she may have narrated.

The story begins in 1962. On a rocky patch of the sun-drenched Italian coastline, a young innkeeper, chest-deep in daydreams, looks out over the incandescent waters of the Ligurian Sea and spies an apparition: a tall, thin woman, a vision in white, approaching him on a boat. She is an actress, he soon learns, an American starlet, and she is dying. And the story begins again today, half a world away, when an elderly Italian man shows up on a movie studio's back lot - searching for the mysterious woman he last saw at his hotel decades earlier.

What did you love best about Shogun?

the story - clavell tells such a great story. having read the book this was like visiting with an old friend. New to Audible - I am really appreciating taking listening to a book.

Have you listened to any of David Case’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I would not deliberately seek out any of David Case's other performances.
